This gas pipeline project was entrusted to\u00a0the same Polish contractor who previously completed the Baltic Pipe section in\u00a0a\u00a0timely manner in\u00a02022. Budimex\u2019s tender received the highest rating in\u00a0the tender proceedings, and was chosen as\u00a0the most favourable in\u00a0December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The gas pipeline will run from Rembelszczyzna to\u00a0Mory in\u00a0the northwestern part of Warszawa. The net value of the contract is 188 million zloty.\u00a0The construction is due to\u00a0start immediately after signing the contract. The completion deadline is 24 months from the date of the conclusion of the contract, which is in\u00a0the first half of 2025. The warranty period is 36\u00a0years.<\/p>\n<p>Warszawa gas pipeline is a\u00a0strategic infrastructural project for Warszawa and this region of Poland. The construction of the new gas pipeline should improve the accessibility of natural gas for both industrial consignees and the inhabitants of the Warszawa region. A\u00a0functional gas pipeline should reduce the emission of harmful substances, and hence improve the quality of air in\u00a0the capital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The investment also includes the construction of:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an optical-fibre network,<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0DN700\/DN100 underground connection unit, which allows connection to\u00a0the existing Jab\u0142onna gas station,<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0gas station located in\u00a0the immediate vicinity of the existing gas station,<\/li>\n<li>switching systems which involve connecting the constructed gas pipeline with the existing transmission gas pipeline.<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0pedestrian \u2013 bicycle route with a\u00a0length of 1.4 km, running alongside the existing pedestrian \u2013 bicycle route, to\u00a0constitute emergency access for firefighting services,<\/li>\n<li>a\u00a0cathodic protection system including cathodic protection stations with anode electrodes and galvanic anode stations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Modern technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 5 km of the route, which constitutes 1\/5 of the gas pipeline length, is to\u00a0be\u00a0made using trenchless methods \u2013 the plan includes 32 passages of varying lengths. These include five \u2018long passages\u2019 \u2013 two horizontal directional drillings (HDD) and three Direct Pipe passages. This way of construction significantly reduces environmental interference \u2013 valuable natural areas, such as\u00a0\u0141awice Kie\u0142pi\u0144skie Preserve on\u00a0the Wis\u0142a river or\u00a0Park M\u0142oci\u0144ski on\u00a0Bielany, should remain unscathed.<\/p>\n<p>The horizontal directional drilling technology, known as\u00a0HDD, will be\u00a0used to\u00a0pass under the bed of the Wis\u0142a river and the \u0141awice Kie\u0142pi\u0144skie Preserve, for a\u00a0length of approx. 1149 metres. This will allow the Preserve\u2019s valuable natural area to\u00a0be\u00a0bypassed and to\u00a0maintain the continuity of river transport. Another HDD drilling is planned for the Las Nowa Warszawa (M\u0142oci\u0144skiego) area. The trenchless directing of the gas pipeline on\u00a0a\u00a0route of approx. 1200 metres will allow the maintenance of local trees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The other trenchless method used is the Direct Pipe. For the purpose of preserving the tree stand, this technology is planned to\u00a0be\u00a0used:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>under Park M\u0142oci\u0144ski for a\u00a0length of approx. 526 m,<\/li>\n<li>in\u00a0the allotment area on\u00a0Bielany \u2013 the gas pipeline is to\u00a0be\u00a0constructed underground, without trenches, for a\u00a0length of approx. 320 m (the area alongside the Wis\u0142a\u2019s Shaft is adjacent to\u00a0Park M\u0142oci\u0144ski),<\/li>\n<li>under Modli\u0144ska street and in\u00a0the forest area on\u00a0the western side of Modli\u0144ska street for a\u00a0length of approx. 529 m (the forested area between Modli\u0144ska street, towards the Wis\u0142a river).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Environmental protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0number of environmental protection measures have been taken during the process of designing the Warszawa Gas Pipeline. The construction and assembly line in\u00a0forested areas should be\u00a0narrowed to\u00a015 metres during the construction stage (the standard width is 18-20 m) \u2013 this is the minimum width required for conducting the works and supplying the site with construction elements.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0number of trenchless crossings have been designed on\u00a0the gas pipeline route, especially in\u00a0the following forest areas: Park M\u0142oci\u0144ski, Las Nowa Warszawa and forest area in\u00a0the vicinity of Modli\u0144ska street. They should allow the gas pipeline to\u00a0be\u00a0created deep underground, which is beneficial for the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Local species of trees are also going to\u00a0be\u00a0planted in\u00a0the investment lane after the construction is complete. Additional volitional planting has been planned as\u00a0a\u00a0part of the eco-friendly measures aimed at\u00a0protecting the natural environment within the Warszawa area.<\/p>\n<p>The use of trenchless technology not only reduces the environmental interference but also allows the easier crossing of different obstacles in\u00a0the terrain, such as\u00a0roads, flyovers and watercourses: rivers and canals. Traffic should not be\u00a0interrupted during the construction because the roads will be\u00a0crossed via jacking.<\/p>\n<p>All of these measures affected the final cost of construction, and their environmental benefits are substantial.
