The Dramatic Theatre im.\u00a0Aleksandra W\u0119gierki in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok signed a\u00a0contract with Budimex SA for the modernisation of the historic building of the institution. The expected completion date of the investment is the beginning of 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The theatre announced a\u00a0tender for a\u00a0general renovation of its headquarters in\u00a0February this year. In\u00a0May, the institution selected the most advantageous offer \u2013 Budimex SA. The task will be\u00a0carried out thanks to\u00a0funding from the Government Local Investment Fund. Funds for modernization have also been planned in\u00a0the Long-Term Financial Forecast of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.<\/p>\n

\u2013 For over 70 years, Bia\u0142ystok and the entire region have been waiting for the reconstruction of the Drama Theatre. It became possible thanks to\u00a0PLN 26 million from the Government Local Investment Fund, as\u00a0well as\u00a0money from the voivodeship budget. This investment shows that the Polish government recognizes the needs of the capital of the Podlaskie Voivodeship and supports investments that serve the residents. I\u00a0am\u00a0glad that our promise from the local elections in\u00a02018 is becoming a\u00a0reality. I\u00a0hope that in\u00a0two years we\u00a0will meet in\u00a0a\u00a0modern, comfortable and, above all, friendly to\u00a0people with disabilities Theatre \u2013 said Artur Kosicki, Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Wednesday, 7 July, Dr\u00a0Martyna Faustyna Zaniewska \u2013 Deputy Director of the Drama Theatre and Andrzej Sowa \u2013 Regional Director of Budimex SA signed a\u00a0contract for the modernisation of the Theatre building.<\/p>\n

\u2013 This day will certainly go\u00a0down in\u00a0the history of our institution. The long-awaited renovation will finally come true. The time of creating and presenting performances on\u00a0guest stages is ahead of us. I\u00a0believe that the strength of our team will allow us to\u00a0successfully go\u00a0through this difficult period. I\u00a0would like to\u00a0thank all the employees who with understanding and great commitment joined in\u00a0all the works related to\u00a0the preparation for modernization. I\u00a0hope that in\u00a0two years\u2019 time, we\u00a0will be\u00a0able to\u00a0invite our audience to\u00a0the new interiors of the Drama Theatre and enjoy the implementation of this extremely important investment together,\u201d said Martyna Faustyna Zaniewska, PhD, Deputy Director of the Theatre.<\/p>\n

Budimex SA offered PLN 31,777,284.93\u00a0\u00a0for the construction works. The modernization is to\u00a0be\u00a0completed within eighteen months.<\/p>\n

\u201cBudimex has successfully completed many theatrical investments, including turnkey performance. At\u00a0the moment, we\u00a0are also expanding the Polish Theatre in\u00a0Szczecin and modernising the Wybrze\u017ce Theatre in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk. We\u00a0are a\u00a0contractor who always keeps our word and we\u00a0try to\u00a0complete our construction sites on\u00a0time,\u201d said Andrzej Sowa, Regional Director of Budimex SA. \u2013 The biggest challenge in\u00a0this investment will be\u00a0to\u00a0strengthen the existing structure: foundations and ceiling above the stage in\u00a0the historic part of the building, adapting it to\u00a0take over the loads from the new stage technology and to\u00a0renovate the historic structures of the facility \u2013 adds Andrzej Sowa.<\/p>\n

Construction works will begin in\u00a0July this year. The general contractor gives a\u00a07-year warranty for the work performed.<\/p>\n

The project of modernization of the Theatre was created by\u00a0the \u201cKOZIE\u0143 Architekci\u201d studio from Krakow. As\u00a0part of the investment, construction works will be\u00a0carried out consisting in\u00a0the reconstruction, extension, renovation and insulation of the historic building at\u00a0ul.\u00a0Elektryczna 12. It is also planned to\u00a0replace internal installations: water, sewage and heating, electrical, telecommunications, mechanical ventilation, air conditioning, replacement of woodwork and joinery, and development of the area around the building. The modernization will also include the replacement of seats in\u00a0the auditorium and the adaptation of the building to\u00a0the needs of people with disabilities, as\u00a0well as\u00a0to\u00a0fire safety requirements.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the third quarter of this year. The Dramatic Theatre intends to\u00a0announce tenders for the supply of stage technology. As\u00a0part of the modernization, modern solutions in\u00a0the field of stage technology, lighting and electroacoustics are planned. The total value of the investment was estimated at\u00a0PLN 58,000,000\u00a0\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The building of the Drama Theatre im.\u00a0Aleksandra W\u0119gierki in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok is located in\u00a0the\u00a0 center of the city\u2019s urban layout. The seat of the institution was built in\u00a01938 as\u00a0the Municipal Theatre. Marshal J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski. On\u00a0December 27, 1938, its ceremonial opening took place. The Provincial Travelling Theatre performed on\u00a0the new stage, and Eugeniusz Bodo, Mira Zimi\u0144ska and Hanka Ordon\u00f3wna also visited the theatre. In\u00a01940, the Theatre was joined by\u00a0an outstanding director and actor \u2013 Aleksander W\u0119gierko, who created a\u00a0collection of approx. 140 people team. In\u00a01941, the outbreak of war between Germany and the USSR found the Theatre in\u00a0Minsk. The band reached Brest, where it eventually disbanded, and Aleksander W\u0119gierko himself died in\u00a0unexplained circumstances. During the bombing of Bia\u0142ystok in\u00a01941, all the decorations and costumes burned down.<\/p>\n

In\u00a01944, the Theatre resumed its activity, where it played on\u00a0the stage of the pre-war \u201c\u015awiat\u201d Cinema (now the \u201cTon\u201d Cinema). It was then that an acting team was formed, consisting of outstanding artists from Warsaw and Krakow who stayed in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok, such as\u00a0m.in.\u00a0Jan \u015awiderski, Czes\u0142aw Wo\u0142ejko, Halina Kossobudzka, Lidia Zamkowa, who were joined by\u00a0Polish actors from Bia\u0142ystok. The first director of the Theatre was Marian Meller. The first premiere was staged on\u00a0September 22, 1944. It was the play \u201cMy Quail Has Escaped\u201d by\u00a0Stefan \u017beromski. In\u00a0the same year, the retreating German troops carried out systematic arson and blowing up buildings. The Theatre building was also damaged during a\u00a0fire and was unusable.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first performance in\u00a0the rebuilt headquarters at\u00a0ul.\u00a0Elektrica was staged on\u00a0September 23, 1948. It was \u201cTartuffe\u201d directed by\u00a0Stanis\u0142aw Daczy\u0144ski, with stage design by\u00a0Otto Axer. This event was extremely important in\u00a0the history of the Theatre, because the new season began in\u00a0the building where theatrical life continues uninterruptedly to\u00a0this day.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n
