Budimex has completed works related to\u00a0the expansion of the Silesian Planetarium in\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w. As\u00a0part of the investment worth about PLN 80 million, the largest Polish general contractor modernized the existing facilities and built a\u00a0new part of the building. The former planetarium has expanded its area by\u00a0over 3,200 square meters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Budimex, commissioned by\u00a0the Marshal\u2019s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, modernised the Silesian Planetarium in\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w and adapted the facility to\u00a0the latest technical and\u00a0utility standards. The scope of work, based on\u00a0the contract of March 27, 2019 It included the modernization of the existing building, as\u00a0well\u00a0as\u00a0the creation of a\u00a0new underground usable area and\u00a0an observation tower with\u00a0the \u201ccamera obscura\u201d device used inside (Latin for optical darkroom \u2013 the prototype of a\u00a0photographic camera). Construction works as\u00a0part of the\u00a0investment lasted 34\u00a0months.<\/p>\n

The facility with a\u00a0total area of 7,084 m2 has been enlarged by\u00a03,200 m2 of usable area. Four parts of the facility for\u00a0different purposes and completely different structures were modernized: the Planetarium, the Observatory, the auxiliary building and the small observatory (parts A, B, C, and F). The former\u00a0and newly created parts of the planetarium (parts D and E) were connected by\u00a0a\u00a0panoramic elevator, located at\u00a0the western wall of the clock courtyard. A\u00a0significant area of the newly created part of the facility is below ground level and was made in\u00a0reinforced concrete technology.<\/p>\n

The added part of the building was connected to\u00a0the existing underground corridors, and the\u00a0former courtyard of the Planetarium was transformed into a\u00a0new\u00a0exhibition hall,\u00a0on\u00a0the roof of which there is a\u00a0reconstructed sundial. \u2013 The facilities were connected by\u00a0creating underground corridors, in\u00a0place\u00a0of two expansion joints of the auxiliary building. In\u00a0the outline of the courtyard of the auxiliary building, we\u00a0have also made a\u00a0basement, which will be\u00a0intended for\u00a0exhibition purposes. All works were carried out under the supervision of the conservator of monuments <\/em>\u2013 says Andrzej Schmalenberg, Director of the General Construction Branch South of Budimex SA.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0part of the construction works, Budimex secured the existing foundations of historic buildings and excavations. This required complex geotechnical works at\u00a0the\u00a0interface with\u00a0the existing building and\u00a0inside the basements. During the works, the building remained under constant observation through a\u00a0comprehensive monitoring\u00a0system that includes m.in.\u00a0measurement of displacements and vibration monitoring.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the fa\u00e7ade of the main building \u201cA\u201d, new dolomite slabs were installed, which, in\u00a0accordance with the recommendation of the conservator of monuments, were delivered from\u00a0Libi\u0105\u017c. In\u00a0addition, an observation tower was built next to\u00a0the Planetarium, from\u00a0which you can admire the panorama of Katowice, Siemianowice \u015al\u0105skie and\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The construction of the tower was a\u00a0big challenge in\u00a0terms of the complexity of the implementation, because its construction was directly related to\u00a0the installation of an elevator with the\u00a0\u201ccamera obscura\u201d function.<\/em> In\u00a0addition, in\u00a0the historic building of the Silesian Planetarium, we\u00a0have modernized the main projection \u00a0room with a\u00a0panorama of Silesia surrounding the hall \u2013 \u00a0<\/em>adds Andrzej Schmalenberg.<\/p>\n

The building of the Silesian Planetarium was erected in\u00a0the\u00a050s of the twentieth century, is currently entered into the register of monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship under the number A\/399\/13 and\u00a0remains under the protection of the Municipal Conservator of Monuments in\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
