\n DCT Gdansk, the operator of the largest container terminal in\u00a0the Baltic Sea, has signed a\u00a0contract with a\u00a0consortium of Budimex S.A. and Dredging International NV for the construction of a\u00a0third deep-water quay \u2013 the so-called \u201cdeep-water quay\u201d. T3. Construction works are to\u00a0start at\u00a0the beginning of September \u2013 after the end of the holiday season.<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

As\u00a0part of T3, a\u00a0deep-water quay with a\u00a0length of 717 m, a\u00a0depth of 17.5 m and a\u00a0yard with an area of 36.5 ha\u00a0will be\u00a0built. In\u00a0addition, 7 quay cranes, capable of loading and unloading the largest ships in\u00a0the world, and 20 semi-automatic RMG cranes operating at\u00a0the container yard will be\u00a0purchased. Upon completion, T3 DCT Gdansk will be\u00a0one of the largest container terminals in\u00a0Europe, capable of handling a\u00a0new generation of container ships arriving in\u00a0the Baltic Sea, reducing shipping distances for feeder vessels and providing Polish and regional freight forwarders with more connections around the world as\u00a0part of efficient services.<\/p>\n

Budimex S.A. is one of the largest construction groups in\u00a0Poland with over 50 years of history and dozens of completed and completed industrial projects. As\u00a0a\u00a0general contractor, it offers services in\u00a0sectors such as\u00a0road, rail and airport infrastructure as\u00a0well as\u00a0energy and sustainable construction using environmentally friendly solutions.<\/p>\n

Dredging International NV is a\u00a0global leader in\u00a0seabed dredging, marine energy solutions, infrastructure and environmental projects. As\u00a0part of the construction of T3, the company will carry out dredging and reclamation work to\u00a0create a\u00a036-hectare platform that will form the basis of the new terminal. Dredging and reclamation works will begin in\u00a0September this year. and at\u00a0the beginning of 2023, the construction of the northern and southern walls and the main quay.<\/p>\n

The opening of T3 for commercial operations is planned for the end of the first half of 2024, and the full completion of the project for the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring construction, we\u00a0will take all preventive measures to\u00a0protect the environment, marine life and habitats in\u00a0the area affected by\u00a0the project. Upon completion, the terminal will become the most modern facility of its kind in\u00a0the Baltic Sea and will reflect our commitment to\u00a0sustainable investment and operation, by\u00a0reducing CO2 emissions both during construction and with equipment that we\u00a0will use in\u00a0future operations<\/em>\u201d \u2013 said Charles Baker, Managing Director of DCT Gdansk.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the first phase, the new terminal will increase the handling capacity of DCT Gdansk by\u00a01.7 million TEUs to\u00a04.5 million TEU (20-foot containers) per year. Upon completion of T3, DCT Gdansk will be\u00a0one of the largest container terminals in\u00a0Europe, continuing to\u00a0serve the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and international trade markets, as\u00a0well as\u00a0supporting the Polish economy. The investment also means a\u00a0significant enrichment of the service offer for DCT Gdansk customers and an impulse to\u00a0acquire new services and shipping alliances.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commencement of construction works on\u00a0T3 will be\u00a0the beginning of a\u00a0new era in\u00a0container handling in\u00a0the Baltic Sea. This pioneering journey began at\u00a0DCT Gdansk 15 years ago. We\u00a0are proud of what we\u00a0have achieved so far and grateful to\u00a0our customers, employees and all other stakeholders for the faith and loyalty they have shown us. T3 is a\u00a0natural step in\u00a0our journey towards the real The Baltic Hub<\/em>\u201d \u2013 says Charles Baker.<\/p>\n

\u201cBudimex will carry out another strategic investment task on\u00a0an international scale as\u00a0part of a\u00a0consortium with the Belgian company DREDGING INTERNATIONAL N.V. The expansion of the DCT Gdansk container terminal with the next stage of T3 will make DCT Gdansk, the largest container terminal in\u00a0the Baltic Sea, increase its handling capacity by\u00a01.7 million TEU. The contract provides for the implementation of works in\u00a0the \u201cDesign and Build\u201d formula. We\u00a0will start construction works as\u00a0soon as\u00a0possible after obtaining all the Client\u2019s approvals for the Documentation presented by\u00a0the Consortium and within the deadlines provided for in\u00a0the Environmental Decision for this investment, i.e. after 01.09.2022. Until then, intensive design work will be\u00a0carried out in\u00a0the field of hydrotechnical and dredging works. The construction works themselves involve the performance of dredging works with a\u00a0capacity of over 4 million m3, the construction of a\u00a0mooring line with a\u00a0length of over 700 m. The T3 terminal itself will have an area of over 360,000 m2, an operating depth of 17 m and will be\u00a0semi-automatic, which is a\u00a0novelty in\u00a0Poland and a\u00a0trend currently present in\u00a0the world. It is also worth emphasizing that the contract provides for the gradual availability of the terminal to\u00a0the customer so that he\u00a0can carry out transshipment operations parallel to\u00a0the construction. At\u00a0the time of completion of the construction, more than 50% of the terminal\u2019s area will already be\u00a0used by\u00a0the customer for commercial activities<\/em> \u2013 says Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA.<\/p>\n

About DCT Gdansk:<\/p>\n

DCT Gdansk was launched in\u00a02007. and has a\u00a0handling capacity of up to\u00a03 million TEU per year. The total length of the terminal\u2019s two deep-water quays is 1.3 km, enabling the handling of 4 ships at\u00a0the same time. The terminal handles over 600 ships a\u00a0year, including 100 calls of the world\u2019s largest container ships.<\/p>\n

In\u00a02021. DCT Gdansk handled over 2.09 million TEU. On\u00a0April 8, 2021. reached 15 million TEU, which is the total capacity serviced since the beginning of the terminal\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n

DCT employs over 1000 people, of whom over 50 percent. lives in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk and the surrounding area. The terminal has a\u00a0direct and significant impact on\u00a0the regional and Polish economy, generating more than PLN 12 billion annually for the state budget in\u00a0VAT, excise duty and customs.<\/p>\n

The terminal is owned by\u00a0PSA International (40%), the Polish Development Fund (30%) and the IFM Global Infrastructure Fund, advised by\u00a0IFM Investors (30%). PSA\u2019s flagship facilities are located in\u00a0Singapore and Antwerp, and PSA\u2019s global network includes more than 50 locations in\u00a026 countries around the world.
