Already in\u00a02024, students will be\u00a0able to\u00a0use the modern GMU Sports Centre. Today, a\u00a0contract was signed with the contractor of the investment \u2013 the Polish company Budimex S.A. The ceremony was attended by\u00a0the Rector of the Gdynia Maritime University, Prof.\u00a0Adam Weintrit, PhD, DSc, Eng., Mariusz Hurylski, Director of the Northern Branch, and Rados\u0142aw \u015alesar, Director of Region 1, representing the General Contractor, \u201cBudimex S.A.\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The construction of the Sports Centre for students of Gdynia Maritime University is an extremely important and priority task for the University responsible for educating maritime staff \u2013 emphasizes HM\u00a0Rector Prof.\u00a0Adam Weintrit. The construction, which will begin this week, is a\u00a0necessary investment that the University community has been waiting for for several years, at\u00a0the same time it will increase the attractiveness of the University. In\u00a0our sports centre, priority will be\u00a0given to\u00a0students, doctoral students and employees of the University, but I\u00a0am\u00a0convinced that this facility will also serve the residents of Gdynia and will operate seven days a\u00a0week, from morning to\u00a0evening,\u201d adds the Rector of the Maritime University.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We\u00a0are implementing the contract in\u00a0the \u201cbuild\u201d formula. We\u00a0plan to\u00a0hand over the building to\u00a0the Investor with an occupancy permit within 22 months from the date of signing the contract, i.e. by\u00a0June 2024. As\u00a0a\u00a0General Contractor, we\u00a0are a\u00a0reliable partner, valued for keeping our contractual obligations. We\u00a0engage proven partners\/contractors and experienced engineering staff to\u00a0implement the investment, guaranteeing quality and timeliness. \u2013 says Jakub Nagraba \u2013 Director of the General Construction Division at\u00a0Budimex.\u00a0 For the same investor, we\u00a0are also carrying out the construction of the Offshore Center in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk, where the cooperation takes place in\u00a0a\u00a0good and professional atmosphere \u2013 adds Jakub Nagraba.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The entire facility is designed to\u00a0best suit our needs. An example is the space in\u00a0a\u00a0sports hall, which can be\u00a0adapted to\u00a0various sports or\u00a0recreational activities as\u00a0needed. For example, it can be\u00a0quickly divided into three independent volleyball courts, each of which meets the requirements of the FIVB. If we\u00a0add to\u00a0this a\u00a0climbing wall, fitness zone, sauna, it can be\u00a0seen that thanks to\u00a0this facility we\u00a0will be\u00a0able to\u00a0significantly expand and make the offer of sports and recreational activities for our students and employees more attractive \u2013 emphasizes Dr. Andrzej Lachowicz, director of the GMU Sports and Recreation Center.<\/p>\n

The GMU Sports Centre will include, m.in,<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0full-size sports hall with a\u00a0climbing wall,<\/p>\n

\u2013 4 changing rooms with full sanitary facilities,<\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0cloakroom for referees and employees with sanitary facilities,<\/p>\n

\u2013 2 rooms for trainers,<\/p>\n

\u2013 service space,<\/p>\n

\u2013 guest rooms for athletes, training staff with kitchenettes and bathrooms for 40 people,<\/p>\n

\u2013 auditorium for 130 people,<\/p>\n

\u2013 sanitary facilities for spectators,<\/p>\n

\u2013 fitness area and gym,<\/p>\n

\u2013 office space, conference room, technical space,<\/p>\n

\u2013 underground car park with 49 spaces<\/p>\n

The architectural design was developed by\u00a0ART Projekt \u00a0K&M Sp. z\u00a0o.o. \u00a0
The investment will be\u00a0carried out on\u00a0the GMU campus at\u00a0Morska Street, in\u00a0the place of the previous sports hall demolished in\u00a02020.\u00a0 Due to\u00a0the poor technical condition and high maintenance costs of the facility, the modernization of the hall turned out to\u00a0be\u00a0too expensive and pointless.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the Chancellor of the Maritime University, Filip Malata \u2013 the construction site for the GMU Sports Centre will be\u00a0handed over on\u00a0August 5, 2022. By\u00a0the end of the year, preparatory, geodetic, earthworks, construction and installation works will be\u00a0carried out. The opening of the sports complex is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. The cost of the investment, including equipment, is approx. PLN 55 million. The investment will be\u00a0implemented from own funds and the state budget, in\u00a0the form of a\u00a0targeted subsidy from the Ministry of Infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Gdynia Maritime University also plans to\u00a0build a\u00a0new student dormitory,<\/strong> located in\u00a0the immediate vicinity of the University\u2019s main headquarters, which is a\u00a0continuation of the construction of the Sports Centre as\u00a0the second stage of the investment.<\/p>\n

Information about Gdynia Maritime University<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gdynia Maritime University, a\u00a0university with over 100 years of tradition. It educates future merchant fleet officers as\u00a0well as\u00a0engineering and managerial staff for the maritime economy and the coastal region at\u00a0the bachelor\u2019s, engineer\u2019s, master\u2019s and doctoral levels. The university provides supplementary education for officers and specialists in\u00a0maritime economy and the second in\u00a0Europe Executive Offshore Wind MBA studies.<\/p>\n

The competitiveness of Gdynia Maritime University is m.in.\u00a0both marine and land specialties. With its rich educational offer, GMU responds to\u00a0the current needs of the demanding labor market. The University consists of 4 faculties: Electrical, Mechanical, Navigational, Management and Quality Sciences, including 9 fields of study.<\/p>\n

GMU includes the Maritime Institute, within which the University develops its research, scientific and didactic activities. In\u00a02023, the construction of the Offshore Center is planned to\u00a0be\u00a0completed, the task of which will be\u00a0to\u00a0create a\u00a0local, Polish supply chain for the offshore industry.<\/p>\n

Gdynia Maritime University is the owner of three ships: the world-famous sailing ship \u201cDar M\u0142odzie\u017cy\u201d, the modern research and training vessel \u201cHoryzont II\u201d and the research vessel \u201cIMOR\u201d, which is the first Polish vessel adapted to\u00a0research the coastal zone and shallow floodplains.<\/p>\n

Budimex S.A. is currently executing numerous contracts in\u00a0the Tri-City m.in:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Construction of an Underground Car Park as\u00a0part of the Central Park in\u00a0Gdynia, construction of the CTM Laboratory and Workshop Building in\u00a0Gdynia, creation of the Waterfront office and residential building in\u00a0Gdynia. Construction of the Offshore Centre in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk for the needs of the Gdynia Maritime University, construction of the Wybrze\u017ce Theatre in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk, expansion of the DCT 3 Container Terminal in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk, design and construction of the S6 Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass.<\/p>\n
