Work on\u00a0the second stage of the construction of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk is becoming more and more advanced. The contract between the investor \u2013 the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia \u2013 and the contractor \u2013 Budimex SA was signed in\u00a0April last year. The value of the contract is over PLN 574 million, and\u00a0the time for its implementation is 24\u00a0months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Soon, on\u00a0September 17, we\u00a0will open the Shipping Channel through the Vistula Spit. This is the first stage of a\u00a0great project, which is the construction of a\u00a0new waterway, which will enable the opening of the port of Elbl\u0105g to\u00a0the Baltic Sea. One of the elements of the investment connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk is the work on\u00a0the Elbl\u0105g River along with the construction of a\u00a0swing bridge in\u00a0Nowakowo.\u00a0 I\u00a0am\u00a0particularly pleased that the works under this task are also being carried out according to\u00a0schedule, and the advancement of works has already reached the halfway point \u2013<\/em> said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marek Gr\u00f3barczyk.<\/p>\n

The scope of work under the contract includes the reconstruction of the existing fairway on\u00a0the Elbl\u0105g River in\u00a0terms of bank casing, which will ultimately take over the flood protection functions of the earth embankments, the construction of low marinas to\u00a0facilitate access to\u00a0the river and the construction of a\u00a0swing bridge over the Elbl\u0105g River in\u00a0Nowakowo, along with changes to\u00a0the road system.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The construction of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk is entering\u00a0a\u00a0decisive stage.<\/em> An element very closely related to\u00a0the second stage is the county road and the bridge in\u00a0Nowakowo, which we\u00a0are building as\u00a0a\u00a0new crossing. Currently, a\u00a0steel structure is being made at\u00a0the prefabrication site. We\u00a0have reinforced concrete structures of all supports made on\u00a0site. Finishing works related to\u00a0these supports are underway \u2013 <\/em>says Andrzej Ma\u0142kiewicz, Deputy Plenipotentiary for Project Implementation from the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia.<\/p>\n

Currently, as\u00a0part of the investment, the contractor of the second stage, Budimex, is performing hydrotechnical works, such as: driving sheet piling and anchoring, micropile works and reinforced concrete works.<\/p>\n

\u2013 At\u00a0the moment, mainly pile driving works are being carried out. We\u00a0have completed 80% of sheet pile driving, as\u00a0well as\u00a0more than half of the micropiles and tongs anchoring this structure. The entire contract is advanced in\u00a0approx. 50%. At\u00a0the moment, approx. 200 employees and more than 20 vessels. We\u00a0have 5 sets for driving sheet piles and 5 units for driving micropiles. We\u00a0plan to\u00a0complete the mound plunging in\u00a0September or\u00a0October. In\u00a0August, we\u00a0finish the supports of the bridge structure and start assembling the steel structure. In\u00a0October, we\u00a0start road works, which we\u00a0also plan to\u00a0complete to\u00a0a\u00a0large extent this year<\/em> \u2013 says Grzegorz Ma\u0142asiewicz, Director of Environmental Protection. The purpose of the investment is to\u00a0revive the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in\u00a0particular the port of Elbl\u0105g. The new infrastructure solution is to\u00a0be\u00a0the driving force behind the economic development of the entire region. The construction of the new waterway will create an opportunity for economic development for all ports of the Vistula Lagoon, and will also significantly shorten the existing route through the Pi\u0142awa Strait by\u00a0almost one hundred kilometers.<\/p>\n

After the completion of all works, the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk will enable vessels up to\u00a0100 meters long, up to\u00a020 meters wide and\u00a0with a\u00a0draught of 4.5 meters to\u00a0enter the port of\u00a0Elbl\u0105g.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
