Budimex has completed the construction and commissioned a 24-kilometre section of the S61 expressway from Suwa\u0142ki to the state border with Lithuania \u2013 Via Baltica. The Polish general contractor has completed a total of 94 kilometers of this route in\u00a0recent years out of the 130 kilometers that are in\u00a0operation. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The investment on the open section of the S61 in the \u201cdesign and build\u201d system began in January 2020. The investor was the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Bia\u0142ystok. Budimex took over this task from another general contractor who left the construction site.<\/p>\n

\u2013 At its peak, 0.6 thousand people and nearly 300 units of equipment worked on the construction site. We processed a total of 1.3 million tons of land, which is the equivalent of the weight of the four skyscrapers of the Empire State Building in New York. The construction was demanding, we changed the course of the two riverbeds. In order to properly drain the area, we built 63 drainage ditches. The difficult weather conditions in this part of Polish were a challenge. To secure the area, we built column reinforcements with a total length of over 200 km\u00a0 <\/em>\u2013 says Cezary \u0141ysenko \u2013 Member of the Management Board of Budimex \u2013 Director of the Infrastructure Construction Division of Budimex. <\/strong> <\/p>\n

The value of the investment amounted to PLN 843 million. \u2013 This is another section of the S61 route implemented by a Polish contractor. In 2021, Budimex also completed the construction of the following sections: Stawiski \u2013 Szczuczyn Bypass and Wysokie Raczki, with a total length of\u00a039 kilometres. In total, with the section to the border with\u00a0Lithuania, Budimex completed 94 km of the Via Baltica route on various sections <\/em>\u2013 adds Cezary \u0141ysenko.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The scope of work included the construction of the S61 dual carriageway expressway with\u00a0a length of approximately 24.2 km with two road junctions: Suwa\u0142ki P\u00f3\u0142noc Junction and Szypliszki Junction.<\/p>\n

Five car parks for travellers were built \u2013 as part of\u00a0the MSAs: Budzisko Wsch\u00f3d, Budzisko Zach\u00f3d and \u017bubryn, as well as a vehicle inspection site for road services. On the expressway, there are also two social buildings for passengers with playgrounds for children. In total, thirty-three bridge structures were built along the entire section.<\/p>\n
