Budimex has signed a\u00a0contract with GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. for the general construction of the 28 km long Warsaw gas pipeline in\u00a0the \u201cbuild\u201d system. This is another gas pipeline\u00a0 after the Baltic Pipe section completed on\u00a0time in\u00a02022, implemented by\u00a0the same Polish contractor. Budimex\u2019s bid was rated the highest in\u00a0the tender procedure and selected as\u00a0the most advantageous in\u00a0December 2022. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The gas pipeline runs from Rembelszczyzna to\u00a0Mory on\u00a0the north-western side of Warsaw. The net value of the contract is PLN 188 million.\u00a0 The commencement of construction works is planned immediately after the contract is signed. The deadline for completion of the works is 24 months from the date of conclusion of the contract, i.e. in\u00a0the first half of 2025. The warranty period is 36 months.<\/p>\n

The Warsaw gas pipeline is a\u00a0strategic infrastructure project for Warsaw and this region of Polish. Thanks to\u00a0the construction of the new gas pipeline, access to\u00a0natural gas will increase both for industrial customers of the residents of the Warsaw agglomeration. The operating gas pipeline will reduce the emission of harmful substances, which will improve air quality in\u00a0the capital.<\/p>\n

The investment also includes the construction of:<\/p>\n

\u2013 fiber optic network,<\/p>\n

\u2013 underground connection unit DN700\/DN100 enabling connection of the existing Jab\u0142onna gas station,<\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0gas station located in\u00a0the immediate vicinity of an existing gas station,<\/p>\n

\u2013 switching systems consisting in\u00a0connecting the constructed gas pipeline with the existing gas transmission pipeline,<\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0pedestrian and bicycle path constituting an emergency access for fire services, 1.4 km long, running along the existing pedestrian and bicycle path,<\/p>\n

\u2013 cathodic protection system with cathodic protection stations with anode earth electrodes and galvanic anode stations.<\/p>\n

Modern technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over 5 km of the route, i.e. about 1\/5 of the gas pipeline\u2019s length, will be\u00a0made using trenchless methods \u2013 a\u00a0total of 32 such crossings of various lengths are planned. Among them are five so-called long \u2013 two horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and three Direct Pipe passes. This way of carrying out the works significantly reduces interference with the natural environment \u2013 places of natural value, such as\u00a0the \u0141awice Kie\u0142pi\u0144skie Reserve on\u00a0the Vistula River or\u00a0the M\u0142oci\u0144ski Park in\u00a0Bielany, will remain intact.<\/p>\n

To\u00a0the passage under the bottom of the Vistula and the \u0141awice Kie\u0142pi\u0144skie Reserve at\u00a0a\u00a0length of approx. 1149 meters, the technology of directional horizontal drilling, the so-called \u201cdirectional drilling\u201d, will be\u00a0used. HDD. This will allow you to\u00a0bypass the valuable natural area of the Reserve and maintain the continuity of river navigation. The second HDD drilling is planned in\u00a0the Nowa Warszawa (M\u0142oci\u0144ski) Forest. Trenchless routing of the gas pipeline on\u00a0the route of approx. 1200 meters will preserve the local trees. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The second trenchless method used will be\u00a0Direct Pipe. In\u00a0order to\u00a0preserve the tree stand as\u00a0much as\u00a0possible, this technology will be\u00a0used:<\/p>\n

\u2013 under the M\u0142oci\u0144ski Park at\u00a0a\u00a0length of approx. 526 m,<\/p>\n

\u2013 in\u00a0the area of allotment gardens in\u00a0Bielany \u2013 the gas pipeline will be\u00a0run there underground, without excavations over a\u00a0length of approx. 320 m (the area along the Vistula Embankment adjacent to\u00a0the M\u0142oci\u0144ski Park),<\/p>\n

\u2013 under ul.\u00a0Modli\u0144ska Street and in\u00a0the forest area on\u00a0the west side of ul.\u00a0Modli\u0144ska Street along the length of approx. 529 m (forest area from Modli\u0144ska Street towards the Vistula River).<\/p>\n

Environmental protection<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the design of the Warsaw Gas Pipeline route, many environmental protection measures were taken. At\u00a0the construction stage, the construction and assembly strip in\u00a0forest areas will be\u00a0narrowed to\u00a015 meters (the standard width is 18-20 m) \u2013 this is the minimum width necessary to\u00a0carry out the work and deliver the construction elements to\u00a0the site.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0number of trenchless crossings have been designed along the gas pipeline route, especially in\u00a0forested areas such as: M\u0142oci\u0144ski Park, Nowa Warszawa Forest and forest area in\u00a0the vicinity of ul.\u00a0Modlinska. They will enable the pipeline to\u00a0be\u00a0routed deep underground, to\u00a0the benefit of the environment.<\/p>\n

After the completion of the construction, accompanying plantings of native species will be\u00a0carried out in\u00a0the investment zone. In\u00a0addition, voluntary plantings are planned as\u00a0part of pro-ecological activities for the natural environment in\u00a0the Warsaw agglomeration.<\/p>\n

The use of trenchless technologies not only significantly reduces interference with the environment, but also allows you to\u00a0cross terrain obstacles \u2013 intersections with roads, viaducts and\u00a0watercourses, e.g. rivers or\u00a0canals, in\u00a0a\u00a0less burdensome way. During the construction works, the roads will be\u00a0crossed using jacking, so that traffic will not be\u00a0stopped.<\/p>\n

All these activities have affected the final cost of construction, and their benefits for the environment are considerable. Particularly important for the preservation of the tree stand will be\u00a0technically demanding trenchless passages.<\/p>\n
