PKP Intercity invests in\u00a0modern infrastructure solutions as\u00a0part of the largest investment program in\u00a0its history. In\u00a0Krakow, at\u00a0the local parking station, the construction of an ecological<\/strong> seasonal automatic car wash. The facility will be\u00a0built within one year from the start of construction, and the contractor for the contract worth PLN 21.9 million gross is Budimex. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The investment is carried out in\u00a0the \u201cdesign and build\u201d mode. Thus, in\u00a0the first stage, the contractor \u2013 Budimex \u2013 prepared and presented the design of the facility. In\u00a0the second phase, which has just begun, it will deal with its implementation. The launch of the car wash is planned for the beginning of next year, and the contract value is over PLN 21.9 million gross. The construction of the car wash will enable comprehensive cleaning of trains starting their run in\u00a0the capital of Ma\u0142opolska, and thus increase the comfort of people traveling with PKP Intercity.<\/p>\n

The process of modernization of the Polish railway is not only investments in\u00a0the purchase and modernization of rolling stock, but also infrastructure projects. This is perfectly illustrated by\u00a0the example of an automatic car wash that will be\u00a0built in\u00a0Krakow. This is particularly important in\u00a0the context of the plans of our national carrier, which intends to\u00a0systematically expand its offer in\u00a0the coming years, and thus expand its train fleet. Modern parking stations will allow us to\u00a0maintain a\u00a0high level of vehicle maintenance, which will bring us closer to\u00a0our goal, which is<\/em> safe, comfortable, predictable, accessible and environmentally friendly railways,\u201d <\/em>emphasizes the Minister of Infrastructure, Andrzej Adamczyk.<\/p>\n

The construction of the car wash is carried out as\u00a0part of the project \u201cRailway for good connections \u2013 modernization of wagons and locomotives for PKP Intercity S.A. [POIS .05.01.00-00-0022\/17-00]\u201d, Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020. In\u00a0total\u00a0, PKP Intercity obtained PLN 653,730,052.05 in\u00a0subsidies from EU\u00a0funds under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0support the investment effort in\u00a0the Polish railways, because it drives not only the development of railway companies, including PKP Intercity, but also the entire Polish economy. The new car wash in\u00a0Krakow is one of seven such investments planned in\u00a0Poland, which is part of a\u00a0gigantic program. Investments in\u00a0railways worth tens of billions of zlotys include new stations, modernized railway lines, modern and comfortable rolling stock, and rebuilt technical facilities. The car wash will be\u00a0environmentally friendly, will improve the quality of services for passengers, as\u00a0well as\u00a0improve the working conditions of the staff of the Krakow parking station, which is very important. State Treasury companies must be\u00a0leaders of change in\u00a0this respect, and they are, which I\u00a0am\u00a0very happy about,\u201d <\/em>says Maciej Ma\u0142ecki, Secretary of State at\u00a0the Ministry of State Assets.<\/p>\n

PKP Intercity focuses on\u00a0ecological solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n

The installation for washing train sets is being built on\u00a0the site at\u00a017 Sk\u0142adowa Street, on\u00a0track No. 11. Over a\u00a0length of 480 meters, this track will receive a\u00a0tight surface with a\u00a0foundation on\u00a0a\u00a0concrete slab, which is also to\u00a0be\u00a0dripped both in\u00a0front of and behind the car wash. The facility will be\u00a0equipped with a\u00a0sewage treatment plant, which will neutralize the chemicals used for washing and enable the reuse of water as\u00a0part of a\u00a0closed circuit.<\/p>\n

Rail is the most environmentally friendly means of public transport. We\u00a0can call it the green transport of the future. That is why we\u00a0are investing in\u00a0the expansion of our fleet and fighting against transport exclusion that affects Poles. To\u00a0service the growing number of vehicles, facilities such as\u00a0the one being built in\u00a0Krakow are needed. They will allow for a\u00a0high standard of technical service of our fleet, as\u00a0well as\u00a0have a\u00a0measurable impact on\u00a0the comfort of travel and the work of our crews. <\/em>The new car wash in\u00a0Krakow is one of seven such investments planned throughout Poland \u2013 <\/em>says Krzysztof \u015awierczek, Member of the Management Board of PKP Intercity.<\/p>\n

The car wash will also be\u00a0equipped with a\u00a0stand for protecting the chassis against icing and an RFID system, thanks to\u00a0which the initial washing settings will be\u00a0selected automatically based on\u00a0the EVN number. Solutions designed in\u00a0this way will ensure the possibility of external washing of the sides and upper and lower slants of vehicle boxes.<\/p>\n

The facility is to\u00a0operate continuously and serve up to\u00a020 trains a\u00a0day during the day. The car wash will be\u00a0adapted to\u00a0service the carrier\u2019s electric multiple units and wagon sets. One cycle of washing the train will take about 5 minutes (assuming one pass) or\u00a0up to\u00a020 minutes (with three). The train inside the car wash will move at\u00a0a\u00a0speed of 3-5 km\/h.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0will complete a\u00a0very specialized construction task by\u00a0the end of the third quarter of this year. The works will be\u00a0carried out under active rail traffic on\u00a0the service tracks. An interesting and at\u00a0the same time an engineering challenge will be\u00a0the connection of the car wash with the control building, which will be\u00a0located at\u00a0a\u00a0distance of 150 m.\u00a0 Last year, it is one of three car washes completed by\u00a0Budimex in\u00a0the field of railway construction<\/em> \u2013 says Jakub Nagraba, General Construction Director at\u00a0Budimex.<\/p>\n

The new face of the Krakow parking station <\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition to\u00a0the construction of the car wash, PKP Intercity is investing in\u00a0the Krak\u00f3w G\u0142\u00f3wny Zach\u00f3d railway siding. A\u00a0thorough reconstruction of one of the carrier\u2019s main parking stations, where m.in are stationed, is currently underway. Pendolino trains. The aim of the investment, worth nearly PLN 44.8 million gross, is to\u00a0raise the standard of rolling stock maintenance. At\u00a0the station, several dozen trains of the carrier are prepared for the route every day. Thanks to\u00a0the reconstruction, the time of vehicle service will be\u00a0optimized, the water management of the facility will be\u00a0improved and it will be\u00a0possible to\u00a0comprehensively prepare trains leaving Krakow for the route.<\/p>\n

Modern PKP Intercity car washes <\/strong><\/p>\n

The installation in\u00a0Krakow is one of 7 modern car washes that PKP Intercity plans to\u00a0build. The first of them was launched last year at\u00a0the Warszawa Groch\u00f3w parking station. Thanks to\u00a0the investment, the washing time of a\u00a0single train has been shortened and the standard of rolling stock maintenance has been raised, and the facility operates all year round, regardless of weather conditions. The cost of the reconstruction of the car wash amounted to\u00a0over PLN 11.8 million net. In\u00a0addition, at\u00a0the end of 2022, the construction of a\u00a0modern train accommodation facility at\u00a0the Wroc\u0142aw G\u0142\u00f3wny station began. The investment, worth PLN 37 million gross, will meet all environmental standards, and the planned completion date is December 2023.<\/p>\n

PKP Intercity\u2019s infrastructure investments <\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0order to\u00a0ensure a\u00a0high standard of service for modern rolling stock, by\u00a02030 PKP Intercity will invest PLN 2.6 billion in\u00a0environmentally friendly parking stations and technical facilities. The modernization of the technical infrastructure will bring standardization of facilities. After the completion of the investment, they will be\u00a0divided into three categories, adapted to\u00a0the appropriate standard taking into account the needs of the rolling stock in\u00a0a\u00a0given location in\u00a0terms of the implementation of the timetable. In\u00a02030, PKP Intercity will have 20 parking stations and railway sidings and 32 points for preparing trains in\u00a0the field of maintaining cleanliness in\u00a0facilities made available to\u00a0PKP Intercity.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
