The swing bridge in\u00a0Nowakowo, built as\u00a0part of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk, has successfully passed load tests. The tests took place in\u00a0April, when the test rotation of the entire structure was also successfully carried out.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Over 100-meter long new swing bridge in\u00a0Nowakowo over the Elbl\u0105g River will certainly improve navigation, but also significantly improve road transport. The commissioning of the new bridge structure with the accompanying road infrastructure will allow for the next step, which will be\u00a0the demolition of the existing crossing, which is a\u00a0navigational obstacle, namely the pontoon bridge, and the completion of works related to\u00a0the reconstruction of the shore in\u00a0this area \u2013 <\/em>says Dorota S\u0142abek, Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia, Head of the Environmental Impact Department of the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The new bridge is a\u00a0steel structure. In\u00a0the middle, on\u00a0the main support, there is a\u00a0special bearing. The structure weighs over 650 tons. It is the longest (103 m) of the three swing bridges designed as\u00a0part of the waterway. Currently, the Contractor is carrying out\u00a0 finishing works, the assembly joints and the adjustment of the rotary mechanism remain for corrosion protection.<\/p>\n

\u2013 After the construction of the bridge, the problem with opening\/closing the crossing in\u00a0unfavorable weather conditions will disappear. A\u00a0very important project here is also \u00a0the construction of a\u00a01.5 km county road, which will connect to\u00a0the new swing bridge. Nowakowo, where the second stage of the investment is being implemented, as\u00a0an island is currently connected to\u00a0the mainland by\u00a0a\u00a0pontoon bridge, which is in\u00a0a\u00a0very poor technical condition. The new swing bridge will rotate around a\u00a0vertical axis of rotation \u2013 i.e. it will be\u00a0drawn, not drawn. It will significantly facilitate communication with Nowakowska Island.<\/em> The bridge will be\u00a0opened for commercial vessels at\u00a0the request of the Harbour Master\u2019s Office, a\u00a0small crossing for vessels less than 5 m high will take place on\u00a0an ongoing basis<\/em>,\u201d said Wies\u0142aw Piotrzkowskie, Director of the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia, Investor of the \u201cConstruction of a\u00a0waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The construction of the bridge is one of the elements of the second stage of the \u201cConstruction of a\u00a0waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk\u201d. As\u00a0part of this contract, a\u00a0fairway on\u00a0the Elbl\u0105g River is also being rebuilt on\u00a0a\u00a0section of about 10.4 km. The goal is to\u00a0achieve a\u00a0width of 60 m on\u00a0the river, and 40 m in\u00a0the area of Nowakowo (measured at\u00a0the bottom). The banks along the Elbl\u0105g River are enclosed with a\u00a0hydrotechnical structure up to\u00a0the elevation of +2.5 m (on\u00a0sections where the embankments are being rebuilt). The shores are reinforced in\u00a0the form of a\u00a0sheet pile wall, topped with a\u00a0reinforced concrete cap, and the fairway is secured with an underwater slope. In\u00a0addition, in\u00a0order to\u00a0facilitate access to\u00a0the river, 2 low marinas are being built at\u00a0the elevation of +1.2 m along with a\u00a0slipway for launching vessels.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We\u00a0are finishing the development of the area around the facility. The progress of works on\u00a0the edge support is 80%. At\u00a0the moment, we\u00a0have made the enclosures at\u00a0the very beginning of the investment, as\u00a0well as\u00a0at\u00a0the very end, while 20% in\u00a0the middle is still to\u00a0be\u00a0completed. We\u00a0also have dredging works to\u00a0be\u00a0carried out on\u00a0a\u00a0section of 3.8 km from the beginning of the Lagoon upstream of the Elbl\u0105g River. At\u00a0the moment, these works are not being carried out due to\u00a0the provisions of the environmental decision, because we\u00a0have to\u00a0protect the spawning fish. These works will resume in\u00a0September. The main challenge is already behind us. It was to\u00a0mobilize the staff to\u00a0build 15 km of bank support. Previously, we\u00a0carried out 1.5 km of 1.5 km for 2 years, and here we\u00a0have 15 km of shore support to\u00a0complete for 2.5 years, so this is a\u00a0huge amount and a\u00a0very big challenge for many subcontractors. We\u00a0also had sections that were built in\u00a0the middle of the existing Elbl\u0105g riverbed. At\u00a0the moment, 350 people are working on\u00a0the construction site. During the peak period, 30 vessels were operating \u2013 <\/em>reports Grzegorz Ma\u0142asiewicz, contract director and site manager at\u00a0Budimex SA. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Work on\u00a0the second stage began in\u00a0April 2021.<\/p>\n

The first part of the construction of the twenty-three-kilometre-long waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk, completed in\u00a0September 2022 on\u00a0the Vistula Spit, as\u00a0well as\u00a0its second stage, is not the end of the entire investment. As\u00a0part of the third stage, the dredging of the fairway on\u00a0the Vistula Lagoon at\u00a0a\u00a0length of 8200 m has already been practically completed. Currently, new navigational markings are being issued as\u00a0part of it.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
