We\u00a0assess the first quarter of 2023 as\u00a0very good. Profitability at\u00a0every level of the result improved, showing the stable position of the Budimex Group and gave even better prospects for further responsible development, in\u00a0connection with the growing involvement in\u00a0the RES sector.<\/p>\n

The Budimex Group generated an operating profit of PLN 102 million (compared to\u00a0PLN 57 million in\u00a0the first quarter of 2022), while recording an increase in\u00a0profitability from 3.6% to\u00a05.3%. The Group\u2019s revenues increased by\u00a021.3%, which, while maintaining cost discipline, improved the profitability of the gross margin.<\/p>\n

The gross profit of the Budimex Group amounted to\u00a0PLN 143 million with a\u00a0margin of 7.4% compared to\u00a03.9% in\u00a0the first quarter of last year. Profit margin before tax was supported by\u00a0a\u00a0significant improvement in\u00a0the result on\u00a0financing activities, which is the result of higher financial income from interest.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0recorded a\u00a0significant increase in\u00a0the Group\u2019s sales revenues, both in\u00a0the construction part (+20.1%) and in\u00a0the service part (+31.1%).<\/p>\n

Construction and assembly production in\u00a0the first quarter of 2023 (in\u00a0current prices) increased by\u00a016.2% year-on-year from PLN 23.4 billion to\u00a0PLN 27.2 billion. In\u00a0the buildings segment, sold production increased by\u00a06.6%, while in\u00a0the infrastructure area the increase was as\u00a0much as\u00a029.7%.<\/p>\n

The sales of the construction segment of the Budimex Group in\u00a0the first quarter of 2023 amounted to\u00a0PLN 1724 million (+20.1% y\/y), while recording an increase in\u00a0both operating profitability (from 3.0% to\u00a04.7%) and gross profitability (from 3.2% to\u00a07.0%).<\/p>\n

The scale of sales revenues in\u00a0the first quarter of 2023 in\u00a0the construction segment was noticeably higher than in\u00a0the corresponding period of the previous year. A\u00a0high and well-diversified order portfolio, as\u00a0well as\u00a0favorable weather conditions, allowed us to\u00a0increase revenues by\u00a0over 20%. Sales were mainly affected by\u00a0the area of road contracts \u2013 a\u00a0large part of the contracts, which in\u00a0the first quarter of 2022 were in\u00a0the design phase, went into the implementation phase, showing higher revenues.<\/p>\n

The operating profitability of the construction segment amounted to\u00a04.7% and was significantly higher compared to\u00a0the corresponding period of the previous year, when it amounted to\u00a03.0%. In\u00a0the period in\u00a0question, the construction industry felt the effects of disrupted supply chains caused by\u00a0the outbreak of the armed conflict in\u00a0Ukraine to\u00a0a\u00a0lesser extent than a\u00a0year earlier. This resulted in\u00a0greater price predictability and the availability of the main assortment of building materials, which can be\u00a0seen in\u00a0the example of steel or\u00a0concrete.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition, the prices of services offered by\u00a0the main subcontractors in\u00a0the first quarter of this year were subject to\u00a0noticeably smaller fluctuations than in\u00a0the corresponding period of the previous year. This is particularly noticeable in\u00a0the area of cubature construction. At\u00a0the same time, the effects of increases in\u00a0the prices of construction materials and labour, observed from the moment of submitting the bid to\u00a0the commencement of construction works (in\u00a0the case of contracts implemented in\u00a0the \u201cDesign and Build\u201d formula, it is usually over a\u00a0year), have been partially absorbed by\u00a0the increase in\u00a0the level of valorisation on\u00a0construction contracts carried out for public contracting authorities.<\/p>\n

The gross margin of the construction segment in\u00a0the period in\u00a0question was 7.0% and was significantly higher than in\u00a0the first quarter of 2022, when it amounted to\u00a03.2%. In\u00a0the first quarter of 2023, in\u00a0addition to\u00a0an increase in\u00a0profitability at\u00a0the operating level, profitability at\u00a0the level of gross profit was supported by\u00a0a\u00a0positive result generated on\u00a0financing activities due to\u00a0interest on\u00a0deposits.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the first quarter of 2023, we\u00a0obtained contracts worth over PLN 600 million. The Budimex Group\u2019s order book at\u00a0the end of March 2023 amounted to\u00a0PLN 12.6 billion and secures the work front for the entire current year and gives the prospect of maintaining a\u00a0high level of sales for 2024-2025. Intensive work on\u00a0the acquisition of new projects has resulted in\u00a0the value of projects awaiting signing, and those where the offer of Budimex or\u00a0Group companies has been rated the highest, currently exceeding PLN 5.3 billion. In\u00a0the coming quarters, this should translate into maintaining a\u00a0high value of the order book.<\/p>\n

The Budimex Group ended the first quarter of 2023 with a\u00a0net cash position of nearly PLN 3.3 billion. In\u00a0fulfilling the assumptions of the adopted dividend policy, the Management Board of Budimex SA recommended to\u00a0the Supervisory Board and the General Meeting of Shareholders the payment of a\u00a0dividend from the profit generated for 2022 in\u00a0the amount of PLN 459 million, which is PLN 17.99 per share. The dividend would be\u00a0paid in\u00a0June 2023.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the first quarter of 2023. The FBSerwis Group recorded an increase in\u00a0sales revenues by\u00a0PLN 51.4 million, while maintaining good profitability. Gross profit amounted to\u00a0PLN 23 million compared to\u00a0PLN 16 million in\u00a0the first quarter of 2022.<\/p>\n

\"BX<\/p>\n

The revenues of the FBSerwis Group, which is a\u00a0key asset within the services segment (the results of the service part also include the activities of several smaller companies, including Budimex Parking Wroc\u0142aw) amounted to\u00a0PLN 217 million and were\u00a0 31.1% higher than in\u00a0the corresponding period of the previous year. The increase in\u00a0sales volume was achieved in\u00a0each of the segments of operations at\u00a0a\u00a0higher level than we\u00a0assumed. The increase in\u00a0sales in\u00a0the first quarter of 2023 compared to\u00a0the corresponding period of the previous year is mainly due to\u00a0the increased scale of operations (acquisition of shares in\u00a0a\u00a0new venture, increase in\u00a0waste processing and a\u00a0higher number of contracts\u00a0 in\u00a0the road segment).<\/p>\n

Market outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n

The current order book of the Budimex Group fully secures the work front and gives the prospect of maintaining a\u00a0high level of sales in\u00a02024-2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We\u00a0positively assess the decision of the contracting authorities in\u00a0the area of infrastructure to\u00a0increase the indexation rates of construction contracts. In\u00a0the face of persistently elevated inflation and general economic uncertainty, this allows to\u00a0stabilize the profitability of long-term orders and, consequently, has a\u00a0positive impact on\u00a0the stability of the entire sector.<\/p>\n

The challenges of the coming quarters are primarily to\u00a0supplement the order portfolio. On\u00a0the one hand, our fears about the tightening of competition on\u00a0the road market are materializing. It is possible that in\u00a0the next few quarters, the aggressive pricing policy of competitors will result in\u00a0pressure on\u00a0margins in\u00a0the industry. Bearing in\u00a0mind the uncertain macroeconomic situation and fluctuations in\u00a0the prices of materials, we\u00a0invariably approach new offers with caution, calculating cost estimates reliably and responsibly. We\u00a0hope that other market participants will also approach the submission of bids in\u00a0the coming months reliably and with due consideration. On\u00a0the other hand, we\u00a0are observing persistent delays in\u00a0financing railway projects, where we\u00a0have several important contracts waiting to\u00a0be\u00a0signed. This confirms our\u00a0 belief that the chosen development directions, including segment diversification by\u00a0strengthening our position in\u00a0the hydrotechnical and military segments, as\u00a0well as\u00a0expansion into foreign markets, will allow us to\u00a0maintain the long-term growth trend of the construction segment\u2019s order portfolio and revenues while maintaining stable profitability. We\u00a0hope that our own projects in\u00a0the area of renewable energy sources will become an\u00a0 additional impulse for the growth of the construction part.<\/p>\n

Continuing the direction of dynamic development in\u00a0the area of investments in\u00a0renewable energy, in\u00a0recent weeks we\u00a0have signed an agreement with our partner \u2013 Ferrovial on\u00a0the establishment of a\u00a0new joint-venture company BXF Energia, which is currently working on\u00a0projects with a\u00a0capacity of 110 MW in\u00a0wind energy and 112 MW in\u00a0photovoltaics at\u00a0various stages of advancement. In\u00a0the next 4-5 years, our goal is to\u00a0have a\u00a0portfolio of RES projects with a\u00a0capacity of approx. 500 MW from wind and solar in\u00a0operation or\u00a0construction.<\/p>\n

Awards and distinctions <\/strong><\/p>\n

Supporting the development of the national economy and improving the quality of life of the beneficiaries of the implemented investments are among the key objectives of Budimex\u2019s operations. Our commitment was reflected in\u00a0the awards we\u00a0received in\u00a0the first quarter of this year. We\u00a0received the WNP Awards for our contribution to\u00a0changing the Polish market for the better and the title of Dividend Company of the Year 2022 by\u00a0the Invest Cuffs Foundation. Budimex was also named the Construction Company of the Year by\u00a0the \u201cBuilder\u201d magazine.<\/p>\n

Education<\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00a0we\u00a0continue our efforts to\u00a0promote work in\u00a0the construction industry,
at\u00a0the beginning of March, we\u00a0inaugurated a\u00a0new edition of the Budimex Academy student internship programme. The project \u201cPractice is a\u00a0measure of success\u201d will benefit 250 students from all over Polish. As\u00a0part of the activities aimed at\u00a0secondary schools, in\u00a0the first quarter of 2023, we\u00a0established cooperation with the Railway Technical School in\u00a0Warsaw, including joint scientific and technical activities and training projects.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0are also constantly implementing a\u00a0special project with the Zwolnieni z\u00a0Teorii Foundation, which had its grand finale on\u00a0April 21. Within a\u00a0few months, we\u00a0visited 127 technical schools throughout Poland. We\u00a0established cooperation with 40 schools, and 34 teams of students, in\u00a0cooperation with our experts, took up the challenge of creating original CSR projects. On\u00a01 March, a\u00a0group of programme participants also started their internships at\u00a0Budimex.<\/p>\n

ESG activities<\/strong><\/p>\n

At\u00a0Budimex, we\u00a0want to\u00a0be\u00a0a\u00a0good neighbour, responding to\u00a0the needs of local communities. As\u00a0a\u00a0general contractor for the construction of a\u00a0tram to\u00a0Warsaw\u2019s Wilan\u00f3w district, we\u00a0are greening the urban space. At\u00a0the beginning of the year, we\u00a0started the first stage of the \u201cGreen Stop\u201d project, in\u00a0which we\u00a0will plant 400 additional trees by\u00a0spring 2024, and ultimately 1000, including compensatory plantings, along the tram line in\u00a0the Mokot\u00f3w and Wilan\u00f3w districts.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0a\u00a0company with roots in\u00a0the construction industry, we\u00a0also attach great importance to\u00a0the issue of safety. At\u00a0the beginning of this year, the third edition of Budimex\u2019s proprietary programme \u2013 \u201cHello ICE\u201d, under the patronage of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, was launched. The aim of the project is to\u00a0promote proper behaviour on\u00a0the road among children. The first day of educational activities took place in\u00a0Zi\u0119bice.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
