The fifteenth edition of the European Economic Congress in\u00a0Katowice is behind us. Every year, the series of debates and meetings accompanying the ECE is attended by\u00a0representatives of business and politics, as\u00a0well as\u00a0scientists, practitioners and decision-makers from Poland, Europe and the world. Over the course of three days, thousands of talks, meetings, discussions are held on\u00a0topics such as\u00a0the path to\u00a0stabilization after the receding pandemic, the war in\u00a0Ukraine and its multiple consequences, and dynamic geopolitical changes. These are the sources of many new challenges that this year\u2019s ECE guests are debating.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the speakers were experts from the Budimex Group, including Member of the Management Board, Operational Director of Infrastructure Construction \u2013 Cezary \u0141ysenko, who took part in\u00a0a\u00a0panel on\u00a0the economic situation in\u00a0the construction sector. During the debate, numerous topics were raised, including m.in.\u00a0financing investments in\u00a0the conditions of high inflation and economic crisis, prices of materials and services, as\u00a0well as\u00a0valorisation of tenders in\u00a0regulations and in\u00a0practice.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Due to\u00a0the portfolio we\u00a0have for 2023 and 2024, the situation looks good, but we\u00a0are wondering what we\u00a0will do\u00a0in\u00a02026-2027 and beyond. General contractors have to\u00a0think in\u00a0a\u00a0five-year perspective, and even 10 years ahead. Looking at\u00a0what is currently happening on\u00a0the market, we\u00a0feel that we\u00a0are a\u00a0beneficiary of the pandemic situation and the war in\u00a0Ukraine in\u00a0terms of costs,\u201d said Cezary \u0141ysenko during the debate.<\/p>\n

The general contractor emphasizes that the situation related to\u00a0road infrastructure contracts is stable today. As\u00a0far as\u00a0railway construction is concerned, Budimex is at\u00a0the stage of waiting for new tasks. On\u00a0the other hand, in\u00a0residential construction, stagnation, a\u00a0decrease in\u00a0orders and a\u00a0lower number of building permits are visible. The Member of the Management Board emphasised that Budimex is still looking for new opportunities in\u00a0energy construction and is focused on\u00a0green energy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 As\u00a0far as\u00a0the portfolio in\u00a0railway construction is concerned \u2013 it is true that today we\u00a0are at\u00a0a\u00a0historic moment and there are many of these investments. We\u00a0have been preparing for railway investments for the last almost 10 years. In\u00a0order to\u00a0be\u00a0able to\u00a0function effectively, we\u00a0have made huge investments in\u00a0rolling stock, machinery and equipment. I\u00a0dare say that today we\u00a0have the latest sets in\u00a0Europe. This equipment must be\u00a0busy,\u201d continued Cezary \u0141ysenko.<\/p>\n

During the debate, the topic of acquiring new employees and challenges on\u00a0the labor market was also raised.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoland is currently the second largest construction site in\u00a0Europe, which means that we\u00a0have quite strong human resources to\u00a0work. We\u00a0must ensure that new staff and the young generation appear on\u00a0the market. Commercial construction in\u00a0Poland faces a\u00a0challenge \u2013 many people want to\u00a0work remotely. Unfortunately, we\u00a0will not be\u00a0able to\u00a0build the bridge remotely,\u201d concluded Cezary \u0141ysenko.<\/p>\n
