Press release of Gdynia Maritime University:<\/p>\n

Topping out ceremony at\u00a0the construction site of the Sports and Recreation Centre of Gdynia Maritime University. Students will be\u00a0able to\u00a0use the modern facility in\u00a0the middle of next year. <\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0the campus of the Gdynia Maritime University, a\u00a0traditional topping out ceremony was hung to\u00a0symbolize the construction of the highest point of the facility.<\/p>\n

Construction began in\u00a0mid-2022 and is proceeding smoothly. \u201eThe works are carried out in\u00a0the \u201cbuild\u201d formula and are carried out according to\u00a0the schedule. We\u00a0plan to\u00a0complete the construction on\u00a0the date expected by\u00a0the investor, i.e.: by\u00a0the end of June 2024\u2033<\/em> \u2013 says Pawe\u0142 Pijar \u2013 Contract Director at\u00a0Budimex, the main contractor of the investment.<\/p>\n

The progress of the works is at\u00a0the level of 40%. The entire structure of the building has been completed, the shell state is completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction of the Sports and Recreation Centre of Gdynia Maritime University is an extremely important and priority task for the University, which is responsible for educating maritime staff<\/em>\u201d \u2013 emphasizes the Rector, Prof.\u00a0Adam Weintrit, PhD, DSc, Eng.\u00a0 \u201eDue to\u00a0the terrible technical condition, the old sports hall was demolished, and students follow the physical education program in\u00a0rented sports facilities of Gdynia schools. We\u00a0are probably the only university that does not have a\u00a0real sports hall. Soon we\u00a0will be\u00a0able to\u00a0say that not only do\u00a0we\u00a0have a\u00a0hall, but it is the most beautiful and modern, at\u00a0least in\u00a0the Tri-City. After the completion of this investment, we\u00a0will be\u00a0planning to\u00a0build a\u00a0student dormitory in\u00a0the vicinity of the Sports and Recreation Centre,\u201d added the GMU Rector.<\/em><\/p>\n

Reinforced concrete works have been completed, and masonry works are currently underway. Trapezoidal sheet metal with thermal insulation was laid on\u00a0the roof, the ceiling in\u00a0the garage hall was insulated with mineral wool, the installation of window joinery and the fa\u00e7ade from the side of Grabowo Street began.\u00a0 Works related to\u00a0the execution of the fa\u00e7ade, plastering works at\u00a0the level of the garage hall and the ground floor of the building are underway, electrical and teletechnical installations and sanitary installations are being made. By\u00a0the end of September, it is planned to\u00a0complete the entire fa\u00e7ade of the building and start external road works.<\/p>\n

The facility is demanding in\u00a0terms of engineering, m.in.\u00a0in\u00a0terms of roof construction. During the works, 11 prefabricated prestressed girders with a\u00a0length of 30 m were installed. each and a\u00a0height of 150 cm\u00a0and an installation weight of 35 tons. The final stage of the works was the assembly of 7 pieces of prefabricated parapet panels with dimensions of 6\u00d72 m and a\u00a0weight of 10.2 tons.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo build such a\u00a0structure, it was necessary to\u00a0select a\u00a0special crane that has a\u00a0lifting capacity of 38 tons within a\u00a0radius of 36 meters. In\u00a0this way, at\u00a0a\u00a0distance of 4 meters from the basement building, a\u00a0Liebherr LTM-1650-8.1 mobile crane with a\u00a0maximum lifting capacity of 700 tons was placed generating about 1600 kN of foot pressure <\/em>\u2013 emphasizes Pawe\u0142 Pijar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire facility is designed to\u00a0best suit our needs. The sports hall can be\u00a0adapted to\u00a0various sports or\u00a0recreational activities as\u00a0needed, e.g. quickly divided into three independent volleyball courts, each of which meets the requirements of the FIVB. If we\u00a0add to\u00a0this a\u00a0climbing wall, fitness zone, sauna, you can see that thanks to\u00a0this facility we\u00a0will be\u00a0able to\u00a0significantly expand and make the offer of sports and recreational activities for our students and employees more attractive <\/em>\u2013 notes Dr. Andrzej Lachowicz, director of the GMU Sports and Recreation Center.<\/p>\n

The investment was co-financed from the state budget, in\u00a0the form of a\u00a0targeted subsidy from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the University\u2019s own funds. The cost of the investment is approx. 54 million. PLN.<\/p>\n

The GMU Sports Centre will include, m.in,<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0full-size sports hall with a\u00a0climbing wall,<\/p>\n

\u2013 8 changing rooms with full sanitary facilities,<\/p>\n

\u2013 a\u00a0cloakroom for referees and employees with sanitary facilities,<\/p>\n

\u2013 rooms for coaches,<\/p>\n

\u2013 service space,<\/p>\n

\u2013 guest rooms for athletes, training staff with kitchenettes and bathrooms for 40 people,<\/p>\n

\u2013 auditorium for 130 people,<\/p>\n

\u2013 sanitary facilities for spectators,<\/p>\n

\u2013 fitness area and gym,<\/p>\n

Information about Gdynia Maritime University<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gdynia Maritime University, a\u00a0university with over 100 years of tradition. It educates future merchant fleet officers as\u00a0well as\u00a0engineering and managerial staff for the maritime economy and the coastal region at\u00a0the bachelor\u2019s, engineer\u2019s, master\u2019s and doctoral levels. The university provides supplementary education for officers and specialists in\u00a0maritime economy and the second in\u00a0Europe Executive Offshore Wind MBA studies.<\/p>\n

The competitiveness of Gdynia Maritime University is m.in.\u00a0both marine and land specialties. With its rich educational offer, GMU responds to\u00a0the current needs of the demanding labor market. The University consists of 4 faculties: Electrical, Mechanical, Navigational, Management and Quality Sciences, including 10 fields of study.<\/p>\n

GMU includes the Maritime Institute, within which the University develops its research, scientific and didactic activities. Gdynia Maritime University is the owner of three ships: the world-famous sailing ship \u201cDar M\u0142odzie\u017cy\u201d, the modern research and training vessel \u201cHoryzont II\u201d and the research vessel \u201cIMOR\u201d, which is the first Polish vessel adapted to\u00a0research the coastal zone and shallow floodplains.<\/p>\n
