Reduction of accidents, a significant increase in the use of waste on construction sites and a reduction in pay and job differences between women and men \u2013 these are the conclusions of some of the social indicators covered by ESG reporting developed by Budimex in recent years, according to the non-financial report of the Budimex Group for 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next edition of the report, which takes into account environmental and social activities and the foundations of sustainable management, was presented by Budimex. More than 80 indicators, based on GRI standards, highlight the Group\u2019s contribution to shaping better living conditions for current and future generations.<\/p>\n

In the Budimex report \u201cFor People. For a better life\u201d presents the relationships between the financial and non-financial aspects of the Group\u2019s operations, as well as its approach to environmental issues, the social environment, Employees, Customers and Partners.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We always put people at the center of our activities. It is with people and for people that we carry out the investments and projects entrusted to us \u2013 supporting mobility, increasing access to places of science and culture, affecting Polish security and the energy transformation of our country. A sense of responsibility and awareness of the impact motivate us to present our activities in a detailed, transparent manner, constantly expanding the scope of this analysis,\u201d says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s report covers three main areas beyond the operational agenda: climate change and the environment, labour and social issues. The report was also an opportunity to summarize the implementation of the objectives set out in the Budimex Group\u2019s CSR Strategy for 2021-2023 and set out in the 2030 Agenda. Last year, the Company joined the Partnership for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, committing itself to fulfill 9 strategic goals for the development of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2022, we maintained the assumed level of achievement of the objectives in the areas of responsibility set out in the Strategy. In each of them, we have started to implement or carried out specific activities to raise standards or increase our contribution, primarily in the area of due diligence, ethics and health and safety,\u201d emphasizes Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA. \u201cAt Budimex, we put social impact and care for the environment on an equal footing with the interests of employees and responsible management of the company. Hence m.in. a training project on the importance of compliance in the functioning of our Group, which was launched last year. A broader view of CSR is also a preview of the ESG Strategy for 2023-2026 that we are developing, which will deepen and expand the areas of Budimex\u2019s social commitment,\u201d adds President Artur Popko.<\/p>\n

Climate Change and the Environment<\/p>\n

In 2022, the Budimex Group developed the green pillar of its operations by actively participating in the process of national energy transformation. Her portfolio included m.in. Magnolia Energy, which is implementing the wind farm construction project. In total, the company invested PLN 32.3 million in this RES segment last year. The implemented energy efficiency solutions and the energy consumption rationalisation policy contributed to a 16.1% decrease in fuel consumption in the Group\u2019s buildings and installations. compared to last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cActing for the development of a zero-emission economy and transport, to neutralise the environmental impact of the construction industry and clean air, is one of the Group\u2019s leading and long-term strategic objectives. Last year, we almost doubled (215% y\/y) the share of electricity generated from RES. At the same time, we attach great importance to the processing and reuse of construction materials and waste. Our ambition is to implement the principles of circular economy at Budimex,\u201d says President Artur Popko.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Budimex SA restored 45.3 per cent of the Poles. non-hazardous waste used. In addition, 28.3 per cent. were transferred for recovery outside the Company.<\/p>\n

Employee issues<\/p>\n

As a company operating in the construction industry, Budimex strives to maintain and continuously improve health and safety standards. Last year, it recorded a decrease in the accident severity index to 0.17 compared to 0.32 in 2021. Over the last 3 years, the company has reduced the overall number of accidents at work among employees \u2013 from 134 (2020) to 86.<\/p>\n

Budimex actively promotes engineering professions among women. It successively strives to increase their percentage in managerial positions and to level the playing field within the organization. In 2022, the Group\u2019s pay gap was adjusted to 1.9%. For comparison, the corresponding rate in the European Union is 13% (data for 2021). Among managers and executives, women accounted for 38% in 2022 \u2013 an increase of 19 percentage points compared to 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want Budimex to be not only a safe, but also an attractive, diverse and fair workplace. In addition to the cyclically organized \u201cSafety Week\u201d, we carry out a number of additional training m.in. in the area of first aid, as well as development projects \u2013 \u201cContract Manager Academy\u201d or \u201cBrick Success\u201d, i.e. a managerial program addressed to women \u2013 explains Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska, Member of the Management Board, Director of the Human Resources Management Division. \u201cBy being a responsible employer, we mean supporting our employees in various dimensions, not only the professional one. In 2022, we introduced a psychologist\u2019s on-call duty. We have also conducted over 30 webinars and courses on mental health,\u201d adds Director Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

Social issues<\/p>\n

Creating a good atmosphere around the implemented investments is an integral part of Budimex\u2019s operations. In addition to the benefits of the development of buildings and infrastructure facilities, the Group responds to the real, current needs of local communities. In 2022, the flagship projects \u2013 \u201cHello ICE. Budimex for Children\u201d, \u201cParent Zone\u201d or \u201cHouse from the Heart\u201d. Budimex has also been actively involved in in-kind and financial assistance for Ukraine, providing in-kind and financial assistance in the amount of over PLN 3 million.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The strength of our commitment to social activities is the combination of top-down actions with support for bottom-up initiatives of our employees. Last year, in the face of the outbreak of war in Ukraine, we implemented seven projects submitted as part of the \u201cVolunteering Grant\u201d, donating PLN 136,000 to this purpose. PLN. In this way, we were able not only to expand the scope of help, but also to reach specific people and families affected by the conflict,\u201d says Director Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

The integrated report for 2022 was prepared on the basis of the Budimex Group\u2019s internal reporting model, based on the GRI Standards indicators, in the updated version of November 2021. The scope of the document takes into account the good practices of TCFD (Task-force for Climate-related Disclosure). The report was also subject to a non-obligatory verification by an independent auditor \u2013 Deloitte Advisory Sp. z o.o. sp. k.<\/p>\n
