Reduction of accidents, a\u00a0significant increase in\u00a0the use of waste on\u00a0construction sites and a\u00a0reduction in\u00a0pay and job differences between women and men \u2013 these are the conclusions of some of the social indicators covered by\u00a0ESG reporting developed by\u00a0Budimex in\u00a0recent years, according to\u00a0the non-financial report of the Budimex Group for 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next edition of the report, which takes into account environmental and social activities and the foundations of sustainable management, was presented by\u00a0Budimex. More than 80 indicators, based on\u00a0GRI standards, highlight the Group\u2019s contribution to\u00a0shaping better living conditions for current and future generations.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the Budimex report \u201cFor People. For a\u00a0better life\u201d presents the relationships between the financial and non-financial aspects of the Group\u2019s operations, as\u00a0well as\u00a0its approach to\u00a0environmental issues, the social environment, Employees, Customers and Partners.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We\u00a0always put people at\u00a0the center of our activities. It is with people and for people that we\u00a0carry out the investments and projects entrusted to\u00a0us \u2013 supporting mobility, increasing access to\u00a0places of science and culture, affecting Polish security and the energy transformation of our country. A\u00a0sense of responsibility and awareness of the impact motivate us to\u00a0present our activities in\u00a0a\u00a0detailed, transparent manner, constantly expanding the scope of this analysis,\u201d says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s report covers three main areas beyond the operational agenda: climate change and the environment, labour and social issues. The report was also an opportunity to\u00a0summarize the implementation of the objectives set out in\u00a0the Budimex Group\u2019s CSR Strategy for 2021-2023 and set out in\u00a0the 2030 Agenda. Last year, the Company joined the Partnership for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, committing itself to\u00a0fulfill 9 strategic goals for the development of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2022, we\u00a0maintained the assumed level of achievement of the objectives in\u00a0the areas of responsibility set out in\u00a0the Strategy. In\u00a0each of them, we\u00a0have started to\u00a0implement or\u00a0carried out specific activities to\u00a0raise standards or\u00a0increase our contribution, primarily in\u00a0the area of due diligence, ethics and health and safety,\u201d emphasizes Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA. \u201cAt Budimex, we\u00a0put social impact and care for the environment on\u00a0an equal footing with the interests of employees and responsible management of the company. Hence m.in.\u00a0a\u00a0training project on\u00a0the importance of compliance in\u00a0the functioning of our Group, which was launched last year. A\u00a0broader view of CSR is also a\u00a0preview of the ESG Strategy for 2023-2026 that we\u00a0are developing, which will deepen and expand the areas of Budimex\u2019s social commitment,\u201d adds President Artur Popko.<\/p>\n

Climate Change and the Environment<\/p>\n

In\u00a02022, the Budimex Group developed the green pillar of its operations by\u00a0actively participating in\u00a0the process of national energy transformation. Her portfolio included m.in.\u00a0Magnolia Energy, which is implementing the wind farm construction project. In\u00a0total, the company invested PLN 32.3 million in\u00a0this RES segment last year. The implemented energy efficiency solutions and the energy consumption rationalisation policy contributed to\u00a0a\u00a016.1% decrease in\u00a0fuel consumption in\u00a0the Group\u2019s buildings and installations. compared to\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cActing for the development of a\u00a0zero-emission economy and transport, to\u00a0neutralise the environmental impact of the construction industry and clean air, is one of the Group\u2019s leading and long-term strategic objectives. Last year, we\u00a0almost doubled (215% y\/y) the share of electricity generated from RES. At\u00a0the same time, we\u00a0attach great importance to\u00a0the processing and reuse of construction materials and waste. Our ambition is to\u00a0implement the principles of circular economy at\u00a0Budimex,\u201d says President Artur Popko.<\/p>\n

In\u00a02022, Budimex SA restored 45.3 per cent of the Poles. non-hazardous waste used. In\u00a0addition, 28.3 per cent. were transferred for recovery outside the Company.<\/p>\n

Employee issues<\/p>\n

As\u00a0a\u00a0company operating in\u00a0the construction industry, Budimex strives to\u00a0maintain and continuously improve health and safety standards. Last year, it recorded a\u00a0decrease in\u00a0the accident severity index to\u00a00.17 compared to\u00a00.32 in\u00a02021. Over the last 3 years, the company has reduced the overall number of accidents at\u00a0work among employees \u2013 from 134 (2020) to\u00a086.<\/p>\n

Budimex actively promotes engineering professions among women. It successively strives to\u00a0increase their percentage in\u00a0managerial positions and to\u00a0level the playing field within the organization. In\u00a02022, the Group\u2019s pay gap was adjusted to\u00a01.9%. For comparison, the corresponding rate in\u00a0the European Union is 13% (data for 2021). Among managers and executives, women accounted for 38% in\u00a02022 \u2013 an increase of 19 percentage points compared to\u00a02020.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want Budimex to\u00a0be\u00a0not only a\u00a0safe, but also an attractive, diverse and fair workplace. In\u00a0addition to\u00a0the cyclically organized \u201cSafety Week\u201d, we\u00a0carry out a\u00a0number of additional training m.in.\u00a0in\u00a0the area of first aid, as\u00a0well as\u00a0development projects \u2013 \u201cContract Manager Academy\u201d or\u00a0\u201cBrick Success\u201d, i.e. a\u00a0managerial program addressed to\u00a0women \u2013 explains Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska, Member of the Management Board, Director of the Human Resources Management Division. \u201cBy being a\u00a0responsible employer, we\u00a0mean supporting our employees in\u00a0various dimensions, not only the professional one. In\u00a02022, we\u00a0introduced a\u00a0psychologist\u2019s on-call duty. We\u00a0have also conducted over 30 webinars and courses on\u00a0mental health,\u201d adds Director Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

Social issues<\/p>\n

Creating a\u00a0good atmosphere around the implemented investments is an integral part of Budimex\u2019s operations. In\u00a0addition to\u00a0the benefits of the development of buildings and infrastructure facilities, the Group responds to\u00a0the real, current needs of local communities. In\u00a02022, the flagship projects \u2013 \u201cHello ICE. Budimex for Children\u201d, \u201cParent Zone\u201d or\u00a0\u201cHouse from the Heart\u201d. Budimex has also been actively involved in\u00a0in-kind and financial assistance for Ukraine, providing in-kind and financial assistance in\u00a0the amount of over PLN 3 million.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The strength of our commitment to\u00a0social activities is the combination of top-down actions with support for bottom-up initiatives of our employees. Last year, in\u00a0the face of the outbreak of war in\u00a0Ukraine, we\u00a0implemented seven projects submitted as\u00a0part of the \u201cVolunteering Grant\u201d, donating PLN 136,000 to\u00a0this purpose. PLN. In\u00a0this way, we\u00a0were able not only to\u00a0expand the scope of help, but also to\u00a0reach specific people and families affected by\u00a0the conflict,\u201d says Director Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

The integrated report for 2022 was prepared on\u00a0the basis of the Budimex Group\u2019s internal reporting model, based on\u00a0the GRI Standards indicators, in\u00a0the updated version of November 2021. The scope of the document takes into account the good practices of TCFD (Task-force for Climate-related Disclosure). The report was also subject to\u00a0a\u00a0non-obligatory verification by\u00a0an independent auditor \u2013 Deloitte Advisory Sp. z\u00a0o.o. sp. k.<\/p>\n
