Budimex has completed one of the main elements of the construction of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk, i.e. a\u00a0100-metre swing bridge over the Elbl\u0105g River in\u00a0Nowakowo. The structure, which successfully passed load tests in\u00a0April and obtained the necessary permits, was opened to\u00a0vehicular traffic. The facility was constructed under a\u00a0contract concluded with the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new swing bridge in\u00a0Nowakowo over the Elbl\u0105g River will certainly improve navigation, but also significantly improve road transport. The commissioning of the new facility with the accompanying road infrastructure will allow the contractor to\u00a0proceed to\u00a0the next step, which will be\u00a0the demolition of the existing crossing, which is a\u00a0navigational obstacle, namely the pontoon bridge, and the completion of works related to\u00a0the reconstruction of the shore in\u00a0this area.<\/p>\n

The new bridge is a\u00a0steel structure weighing over 700 tons. In\u00a0the middle, on\u00a0the main support, there is a\u00a0special bearing on\u00a0which the bridge is rotated. It is the longest (103 m) of the three swing bridges designed and built as\u00a0part of the waterway.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project of digging the Vistula Spit is undoubtedly one of the greatest construction and logistical challenges in\u00a0Poland. The construction of the bridge we\u00a0are carrying out \u2013 which is worth adding is one of the few operating of this type in\u00a0Poland \u2013 along with the reconstruction of 15 km of the shore, at\u00a0peak times required the involvement of several hundred people and 30 vessels. It is worth noting that the entire project was completed in\u00a0a\u00a0record time of 2.5 years,\u201d says Grzegorz Ma\u0142asiewicz, Contract Director and Site Manager at\u00a0Budimex SA.<\/p>\n

The construction of the bridge is one of the elements of the second stage of the \u201cConstruction of a\u00a0waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk\u201d. As\u00a0part of this contract, the banks are being refined on\u00a0the Elbl\u0105g River on\u00a0a\u00a0section of about 10.4 km and dredging works on\u00a0a\u00a0section of 3.8 km. The banks along the Elbl\u0105g River are enclosed with a\u00a0hydrotechnical structure up to\u00a0the elevation of +2.5 m (on\u00a0sections where the embankments are being rebuilt). The reinforcement of the banks is carried out in\u00a0the form of a\u00a0sheet pile wall, topped with a\u00a0reinforced concrete cap. In\u00a0addition, in\u00a0order to\u00a0facilitate access to\u00a0the river, two low marinas are being built at\u00a0the elevation of +1.2 m along with a\u00a0slipway for launching vessels.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the bridge is built, the problem with opening and closing the crossing in\u00a0unfavorable weather conditions will disappear. A\u00a0very important project here is also the construction of a\u00a01.5 km county road, which connects to\u00a0the new swing bridge. Nowakowo, where the second stage of the investment is being implemented, as\u00a0an island, is currently connected to\u00a0the mainland by\u00a0a\u00a0pontoon bridge, which is in\u00a0a\u00a0very poor technical condition. The new bridge rotates around a\u00a0vertical axis of rotation. It will significantly facilitate communication with Nowakowska Island. The bridge will be\u00a0opened for commercial vessels at\u00a0the request of the Harbour Master\u2019s Office, a\u00a0small crossing for vessels with an \u201cair draft\u201d below 5 m will take place on\u00a0an ongoing basis,\u201d said Wies\u0142aw Piotrzkowski, Director of the Maritime Office in\u00a0Gdynia, Investor of the \u201cConstruction of a\u00a0waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk\u201d.<\/p>\n

The first part of the construction of the twenty-three-kilometre-long waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk, completed in\u00a0September 2022 on\u00a0the Vistula Spit, as\u00a0well as\u00a0its second stage, is not the end of the entire investment. As\u00a0part of the third stage, the dredging of the fairway on\u00a0the Vistula Lagoon at\u00a0a\u00a0length of 8200 m has already been completed and new navigational markings have been erected.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
