Budimex \u2013 a\u00a0Polish general contractor \u2013 has been ranked among the top ten construction companies in\u00a0the world in\u00a0the Financial Times \u2013 Diversity Leaders 2024 ranking. The Polish company scored 71.6 out of 100 possible points and overtook many leading players on\u00a0the international market. Distinction<\/strong>\u00a0This is the result of a\u00a0consistent policy of supporting diversity and systematic support for women\u2019s professional development.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ranking, organized for the fourth time, is the result of comprehensive research based on\u00a0the analysis of surveys collected from over 100,000 people. employees from 16 countries. The result is based in\u00a070% on\u00a0surveys of over 100,000 employees of various companies from around the world, and in\u00a030% on\u00a0HR indicators, such as\u00a0the share of women in\u00a0managerial positions or\u00a0communication of diversity by\u00a0the company. The ranking is organized jointly by\u00a0the leading economic daily Financial Times and the world\u2019s largest global business platform Statista. This year\u2019s ranking was attended by\u00a0850 companies from all over the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe appreciation of our activities in\u00a0the implementation of the diversity policy by\u00a0the Financial Times is valuable to\u00a0us, especially since we\u00a0are the only Polish construction company that is among the top 25 companies in\u00a0the industry,\u201d<\/em> says Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska, Member of the Management Board, Director of the Human Resources Management Division.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the opinion of the organizers of the Diversity Leaders 2024 ranking, the leader in\u00a0the Polish general contractor market pursues an effective policy aimed at\u00a0taking care of the development of women\u2019s careers and increasing their share in\u00a0managerial positions. Thanks to\u00a0the company\u2019s activities, both the number of women working in\u00a0the company and their percentage share in\u00a0the management and expert positions are systematically growing. Currently, every second woman (50%) works as\u00a0a\u00a0construction engineer. For comparison, in\u00a02012 it was 31%. At\u00a0the same time, the number of apprentices has also increased significantly \u2013 women now account for 47% of people learning about the profession during internships. The company also has a\u00a0salary policy aimed at\u00a0equalizing wages. Currently, the gender pay gap rate at\u00a0Budimex is below 3%, which is lower than the EU\u00a0average (10% in\u00a02022). Women make up 20% of the managerial staff, which is a\u00a0nearly threefold increase since 2019 (8%).\u00a0 At\u00a0the same time, the company conducts activities supporting motherhood, such as\u00a0\u201cMom on\u00a0maternity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Budimex consistently implements its diversity policy. Its principles have been set out in\u00a0three documents applicable to\u00a0all companies of the Group. The first of them is the \u201cPrinciples of the Company\u2019s Liability Policy\u201d \u2013 Ferrovial Group, a\u00a0co-shareholder of Budimex. The regulations contained in\u00a0this document oblige all employees m.in.\u00a0to\u00a0respect fundamental human rights, promote equality and maintain a\u00a0work-life balance. The provisions of the \u201cHuman Rights Protection Principles\u201d define actions the application of which will prevent discrimination in\u00a0the workplace, as\u00a0well as\u00a0to\u00a0recognize the value in\u00a0diversity. The third important document is the \u201cCode of Ethics\u201d implementing the assumptions of the indicated policies and counteracting discrimination in\u00a0the area of employment.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Systematic actions taken by\u00a0us relating to\u00a0equal treatment on\u00a0the grounds of gender, age, disability, health condition, nationality, political beliefs, form, scope and basis of employment. As\u00a0a\u00a0result, we\u00a0have been able to\u00a0create an organizational culture that respects all forms of diversity. We\u00a0are glad that this is also noticed outside Poland \u2013<\/em> says\u00a0 Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.<\/p>\n

The organizers of the global ranking also appreciated the company\u2019s efforts to\u00a0support intergenerational cooperation. Due to\u00a0the large age range \u2013 the youngest Budimex employee is 19 years old, and the oldest is 78 \u2013 it is necessary to\u00a0build understanding already at\u00a0the level of language communication. \u201cTo this end, we\u00a0have organized a\u00a0number of various activities. One of them was a\u00a0week-long workshop, to\u00a0which we\u00a0invited linguist prof.\u00a0Jerzy Bralczyk. The participants of these meetings then took part in\u00a0a\u00a0quiz to\u00a0check their knowledge of the changing language. Thanks to\u00a0this form of classes, acquiring knowledge has become not only pleasant, but also effective \u2013<\/em> explains Anna Kary\u015b-Sosi\u0144ska.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Due to\u00a0the fact that Budimex is actively developing on\u00a0foreign markets, an important element of the Group\u2019s activities is also learning the specifics of working in\u00a0a\u00a0multicultural environment. Due to\u00a0numerous contacts with co-workers, clients and business partners representing different nationalities, but also attitudes and values, professional and research-based knowledge of the social and cultural determinants of diversity becomes a\u00a0key tool in\u00a0management. Webinars and workshops were organized to\u00a0understand the psychological dimensions of cultural differences and similarities, referring to\u00a0the examples of countries such as\u00a0Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Australia and Spain, during which employees with the most experience in\u00a0projects outside the Polish country share practical knowledge with younger employees.<\/p>\n
