Digital transformation in\u00a0Polish enterprises still remains a\u00a0challenge. The barriers to\u00a0this process are m.in.\u00a0uncertainty of return on\u00a0investment in\u00a0new technologies, or\u00a0fear of change. During this year\u2019s European Economic Congress, Marek Klusek, Director of the Guarantee, Innovation and Contract Conditions Branch at\u00a0Budimex SA, talked about how to\u00a0stimulate the culture of innovation and the best practices of applying Industry 4.0 solutions in\u00a0companies. <\/strong><\/p>\n

During the 16th edition of one of the largest economic events in\u00a0Poland, the discussion on\u00a0the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions in\u00a0business was attended by\u00a0the speaker of Budimex SA \u2013 Marek Klusek, and was attended by: Ireneusz Borawski \u2013 Country Manager Poland
at\u00a0Dassault Syst\u00e8mes, Ilona Garanty \u2013 Vice President of mLeasing, Artur Pollak \u2013 President of the Management Board of APA Group, Robert Purol \u2013 General Manager NB-PL in\u00a0the VELUX Group and Anna Timofiejczuk \u00a0\u2013 Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at\u00a0the Silesian University of Technology.<\/p>\n

One of the main topics of discussion\u00a0 was the reasons for the insufficient interest of companies, in\u00a0particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in\u00a0the development and implementation of innovations. According to\u00a0the data presented during the panel, 44 per cent. of companies in\u00a0Poland Industry 4.0 is not a\u00a0priority.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the representative of Budimex SA, the construction industry is one of the industries in\u00a0which the development process of solutions such as\u00a0automation and robotisation is still at\u00a0an early stage. At\u00a0the same time, he\u00a0pointed out that the existing shortcomings should not be\u00a0seen as\u00a0limitations, but as\u00a0opportunities. At\u00a0this point, he\u00a0gave the example of the financial industry in\u00a0Poland, which, after the arduous process of entering the path of digital transformation, \u201cleapfrogged\u201d many competitors from Western European countries in\u00a0terms of technology.<\/p>\n

Dean Anna Timofiejczuk, sharing the perspective of the academic community, drew attention to\u00a0the role of experience in\u00a0convincing people and companies to\u00a0innovate. The benefits of the actual implementation of advanced solutions by\u00a0market leaders are presented m.in.\u00a0through the prism of the Budimex Group.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Marek Klusek, Director of the Guarantee, Innovation and Contract Conditions Branch at\u00a0Budimex SA, emphasised that the construction site, due to\u00a0its diversity, is a\u00a0much more difficult space for implementing new solutions than a\u00a0production hall. However, he\u00a0added that Budimex is actively looking for repetitive processes that can be\u00a0automated and adds a\u00a0digital component to\u00a0them. As\u00a0examples of innovations developed in\u00a0the company, he\u00a0pointed to\u00a0the digital twin technology, used in\u00a0the construction of the Military Clinical Hospital in\u00a0Krakow and the so-called \u201cMilitary Clinical Hospital\u201d. Cobots \u2013 Collaborative Robot<\/em> (collaborative robots). He\u00a0talked about the potential of using the virtual version of the building in\u00a0employee training in\u00a0the field of health and safety, as\u00a0well as\u00a0the functionalities of the robot created as\u00a0part of the CONCERT project. He\u00a0emphasized, m.in, its compatibility with other technologies, the autonomy of movement or\u00a0the use of AI elements in\u00a0it, which is often, as\u00a0he\u00a0pointed out, mistakenly limited only to\u00a0language models. Technological processes take time. \u201eThe entry of robots into the construction site is a\u00a0perspective of the next 5-10 years, but it will be\u00a0progress, not a\u00a0revolution,\u201d <\/em>\u00a0 predicted Marek Klusek.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the discussion, the participants and the moderator repeatedly mentioned the topic of employees \u2013 their fears of automation and the degree of preparation for cooperation with new technologies. The panelists drew attention to\u00a0the need to\u00a0\u201copen their heads\u201d and change training processes so that they familiarize future employees with innovations.<\/p>\n

Marek Klusek also pointed out that digital transformation begins within the organization \u2013 from educating the team and inviting them to\u00a0actively participate in\u00a0development processes. He\u00a0talked about how introducing a\u00a0robot to\u00a0a\u00a0construction site, which is able to\u00a0cooperate with humans and make their work more effective, allows them to\u00a0convince employees to\u00a0new solutions. \u201c<\/strong>We\u00a0are afraid of technology, but in\u00a0fact it is the fear of what we\u00a0do\u00a0not know. Once we\u00a0include it in\u00a0our activities, we\u00a0will see the benefits\u201d <\/em>\u2013 he\u00a0emphasized.<\/strong> He\u00a0also assured that in\u00a0the case of construction, it is not possible to\u00a0completely replace people: \u201cWe absolutely do\u00a0not seek to\u00a0eliminate people from construction sites. At\u00a0Budimex, we\u00a0are open to\u00a0all kinds of solutions that appear and that can support the robotisation process. We\u00a0really want to\u00a0be\u00a0the ones who give real support to\u00a0our employees through the solutions that Industry 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 offer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
