Mercedes, Google, Volkswagen, Budimex \u2013 these are the top four most desirable employers in\u00a0the engineering category in\u00a0the HRM Institute research.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Universum Talent Survey<\/em>, conducted by\u00a0Universum Global, is the largest survey of its kind in\u00a0the world, in\u00a0which students from\u00a0over 60 countries participate. Over 16,000 Polish students took part in\u00a0this year\u2019s edition of the survey. As\u00a0every year, on\u00a0the basis of the votes of the survey participants, the Universum Most Attractive Employers Poland<\/em> rankings were created in\u00a0seven categories: business, engineering, IT, medical sciences, exact sciences, humanities and law.<\/p>\n

Employer attributes important for students <\/strong><\/p>\n

What attracts the attention of candidates and makes them find the employer attractive? The most important attributes of the employer brand for students of business, engineering and IT faculties are: good salaries in\u00a0the future and good career prospects. Next in\u00a0line for business students and future engineers are: respect for employees, job security, and training and development. Students of IT faculties mention: training and development, respect for the employee and a\u00a0friendly work environment.<\/p>\n

Anna Macnar, CEO of HRM Institute (partner of Universum in\u00a0Poland) points out that Respect for employees has crept into the top of the most important attributes of the employer brand quite recently, but it seems that it will stay there for longer. Candidates want to\u00a0be\u00a0sure that the employer will care about and respect their people, regardless of their views<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Changes to\u00a0preferences<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0the surface, it may seem that compared to\u00a0last year, the changes in\u00a0student preferences are not very large, because the TOP 5 most important attributes of employers were formed in\u00a02019. likewise. However, it is worth paying attention to\u00a0the attributes that gained the most percentage points compared to\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

IT students pay much more attention to\u00a0the employer\u2019s ethical standards (+9 p.p.), respect for employees (+6 p.p.), a\u00a0clear promotion path and job security (+5 p.p. each). Among engineering students, the largest increases were recorded in\u00a0attributes such as: job security (+6 p.p.) and good career prospects (+5 p.p.). Among business students, good career prospects have the largest increase (+6 p.p.).<\/p>\n

Employers still often tempt candidates in\u00a0advertisements with work in\u00a0a\u00a0creative and\u00a0dynamic environment, while this is the attribute that has lost its importance the most (from -8 to\u00a0-9 p.p., depending\u00a0on\u00a0the field of study). Students also look less at\u00a0the market success of the employer (from -3 to\u00a0-5 p.p.). Interestingly, among IT students, the use of new technologies by\u00a0employers has lost its importance (a\u00a0decrease of 7 p.p.), and future engineers attach less importance to\u00a0the possibility of quick promotion (-7 p.p.).<\/p>\n

As\u00a0Anna Macnar emphasizes Job security has been of great importance to\u00a0candidates for years. This employer brand attribute tends to\u00a0be\u00a0at\u00a0the forefront of the most desirable traits, and\u00a0in\u00a0the situation we\u00a0find ourselves in\u00a0now, both candidates and employees are more likely to\u00a0think of a\u00a0safe employer. During the pandemic, an additional factor is added to\u00a0the stability of employment: physical safety in\u00a0the workplace, including effective protection against coronavirus infection. Young candidates, looking for their first job, will also look for information on\u00a0how the company operates during the pandemic, how it communicated with employees and took care of them<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Dream industries<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among business students, the most popular industries are: banking (41% of responses), marketing, advertising and PR\u00a0(39%) and audit and accounting (25%). Students of engineering faculties indicate the industrial and mechanical (26%), construction (21%) and architecture and urban planning (20%) sectors. IT students are tempted by\u00a0industries related to\u00a0software and\u00a0computer technology (73%) and computer games (41%). Medical students most often focus on: entertainment, culture and recreation (38% of responses), marketing, advertising and PR\u00a0(35%) and the education industry (31%). For science students, the most interesting industries are: pharmacy and\u00a0biotechnology (31%) and chemistry (29%). Medical students would primarily like to\u00a0work in\u00a0hospitals and health care (66%), and for law students, employers offering legal services will be\u00a0the most interesting (65% of responses).<\/p>\n

What information do\u00a0students look for about employers on\u00a0the Internet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most important type of information for students is salary and benefits (very important or\u00a0important for 95% of survey participants). This was followed by\u00a0training and\u00a0development (92% of responses), promotion opportunities (91%), daily tasks performed at\u00a0work (86%) and the workplace itself (82%). It is worth writing about these topics on\u00a0social media, because they will attract the attention of potential candidates.<\/p>\n

Obtaining information about employers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before applying to\u00a0a\u00a0given employer, students check information about them in\u00a0several channels. The most popular are, of course, online communication channels. Among them, social media were in\u00a0the first place, followed by\u00a0job boards and career websites of the employer. They are eager to\u00a0verify the knowledge gained online during real meetings, such as\u00a0job fairs (which are more popular among engineering and IT students than business students) and meetings with employers at\u00a0universities.<\/p>\n

Dream earnings <\/strong><\/p>\n

Students\u2019 salary expectations vary not only by\u00a0field of study but also by\u00a0gender. The highest earnings after graduation are expected by\u00a0students of IT faculties \u2013 on\u00a0average PLN 5,167 gross (men \u2013 PLN 5,450, women \u2013 PLN 4,586). Slightly lower expectations are held by\u00a0engineering students, who declare that they would like to\u00a0earn an average of PLN 4,602 gross (men \u2013 PLN 5,242, women \u2013 PLN 4,166). The lowest earnings are expected by\u00a0students of business faculties \u2013 PLN 4,334 gross (men \u2013 PLN 5,143, women \u2013 PLN 4,084).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
