On\u00a07 July 2020, Budimex signed a\u00a0contract for the execution of two projects \u2013 the reconstruction of the Warszawa Zachodnia station and the construction of an underground tram stop. The tasks are to\u00a0be\u00a0carried out under the project of the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (OPI&E) 5.1\u201313 and OPI&E 6.1\u201322. This is the largest modernization of the railway junction under the National Railway Program by\u00a0the end of 2020.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Warszawa Zachodnia is the most popular station in\u00a0Poland in\u00a0terms of passenger traffic. On\u00a0average, about 1000 agglomeration, regional, long-distance national and international trains, freight trains, as\u00a0well as\u00a0WKD and KM trains pass through here daily. According to\u00a0the latest data, 60 thousand people use the Western Railway Station during one working day, and by\u00a02030 this number is expected to\u00a0double.<\/p>\n

The modernization project of the Warszawa Zachodnia station was prepared by\u00a0architects from the DWAA Architekci studio. According to\u00a0the concept, about 30 km of tracks, 130 turnouts and the overhead contact line will be\u00a0comprehensively rebuilt. The works will take place on\u00a0the Warszawa Wschodnia \u2013 Warszawa Zachodnia section and will last until 2023. The new system will enable the passage of trains from the ring line to\u00a0the Radom line and the creation of direct connections between Piaseczno and Legionowo and Chopin Airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The planned works include widening the existing tunnel and extending it to\u00a0the platform of the ring line. It will become an underground station. \u201d As\u00a0part of the project, new platforms and a\u00a0modernized station hall are also to\u00a0be\u00a0built, thanks to\u00a0which the capacity of this station will increase and passengers will travel much more comfortably<\/em>. The reconstruction of Warszawa Zachodnia is one\u00a0 of the most ambitious infrastructure concepts in\u00a0recent years <\/em>\u2013 says Dariusz Blocher, President and CEO of Budimex. \u201cWhat distinguishes us and allows us to\u00a0carry out such large projects is the fact that we\u00a0have our own equipment to\u00a0carry out railway works and a\u00a0specialized team of engineers. We\u00a0also have experience in\u00a0the implementation of this type of tasks \u2013 last year we\u00a0won a\u00a0tender and started the modernization of the Port of Gdynia station worth PLN 1.8 billion gross.<\/em> The gigantic investment is expected to\u00a0increase the number of trains serviced, as\u00a0well as\u00a0reduce the duration of cargo handling. We\u00a0are also completing the modernization of the Warsaw-Lublin line between Otwock and Na\u0142\u0119cz\u00f3w \u2013 <\/em>adds Dariusz Blocher.<\/p>\n

Fully roofed platforms are to\u00a0be\u00a0accessible to\u00a0people with reduced mobility, and elevators and escalators will be\u00a0adapted to\u00a0transport prams and bicycles. There will also be\u00a0a\u00a0footbridge connecting Wola with Ochota. The entire station is to\u00a0be\u00a0clearly marked, and moving around Warszawa Zachodnia is to\u00a0be\u00a0facilitated by\u00a0a\u00a0new passenger information system.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0level -2. the construction of a\u00a0tram tunnel is planned, which will be\u00a0created as\u00a0a\u00a0technological void to\u00a0be\u00a0used in\u00a0the future as\u00a0part of the extension of the tram line from the Western Railway Station to\u00a0Wola.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Underground stop<\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00a0part of the agreement with Warsaw Trams, an underground stop will also be\u00a0built during the modernization of the Warszawa Zachodnia station. Budimex is responsible for the most complicated section of the entire route, which is located directly under the railway platforms. The tram route to\u00a0Wilan\u00f3w will start from a\u00a0500-meter tunnel under Al.\u00a0Jerozolimskie and the Western Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The construction start date is set for July 8, 2020. Budimex assumed that it needed 1101 days to\u00a0complete the work. The works will be\u00a0carried out during the normal operation of the station, thanks to\u00a0which the modernization of the station will not be\u00a0burdensome for travelers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company has extensive experience in\u00a0the construction of railway infrastructure. Currently, a\u00a0project on\u00a0the Warsaw-Lublin line is being implemented, under which about 120 km of the route will be\u00a0built. Two sections have already been completed, i.e.: Otwock \u2013 Pilawa and Pilawa \u2013 D\u0119blin, and a\u00a0section from D\u0119blin to\u00a0Na\u0142\u0119cz\u00f3w is under construction. Budimex also modernized LCS Kutno on\u00a0the \u017bychlin \u2013 Bar\u0142ogi section. The scope of work included the dismantling of the track, strengthening the ground and construction of a\u00a0new surface over a\u00a0length of 18 km. Turnouts were also dismantled and reassembled, and 27 km of the new overhead contact line was hung.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
