On\u00a030 June this year, in\u00a0the presence of the authorities of the State Water Holding Polish Waters and the main contractor Budimex, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, symbolising the completion of works related to\u00a0the construction of the Racib\u00f3rz Dolny flood control reservoir for the upper course of the Oder. <\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0June, the last finishing works at\u00a0the reservoir in\u00a0Racib\u00f3rz were completed. The installation has been designed as\u00a0a\u00a0polder, i.e. a\u00a0dry facility that will be\u00a0filled only in\u00a0the event of flooding. When the wave arrives, the polder will dam up the water, securing an area of about 600 km\u00b2 from Racib\u00f3rz through K\u0119dzierzyn-Ko\u017ale, Brzeg, Opole, O\u0142awa, to\u00a0Wroc\u0142aw. The investment will protect nearly 2.5 million residents from the elements in\u00a0three voivodeships: Silesian, Opole and Lower Silesian. The overflow and drain structure is equipped with six main gate valves, the operation of which will be\u00a0mechanical and automatic.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The construction of the flood control reservoir in\u00a0Racib\u00f3rz is a\u00a0unique investment. It ensures the safety of millions of people, and hundreds of towns, including Wroc\u0142aw. We\u00a0took over the construction after other contractors. Nearly a\u00a0thousand people and over 200 units of equipment worked on\u00a0the contract. Thanks to\u00a0very good cooperation with the investor and the World Bank, which financed the investment, we\u00a0completed the investment within the contractual deadline. We\u00a0have extensive experience and capabilities in\u00a0the implementation of hydrotechnical structures \u2013 <\/em>says Artur Popko. The Racib\u00f3rz Dolny reservoir has an area of 26.3 km\u00b2 and will hold 185 million cubic meters of water, which is as\u00a0much as\u00a0would fit in\u00a0226 Palaces of Culture. The volume of the facility will gradually increase to\u00a0300 million m\u00b3, due to\u00a0the aggregate extracted in\u00a0the canopy. The net value of the construction works carried out by\u00a0Budimex is PLN 672 million.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The Racib\u00f3rz Dolny reservoir is the largest hydrotechnical investment in\u00a0Poland.<\/em> More than 6.8 million tons of soil were used for the construction, which would accommodate a\u00a0total of 130,960\u00a0freight wagons. Such a\u00a0long train in\u00a0a\u00a0straight line would lead from Racib\u00f3rz to\u00a0Madrid <\/em>\u2013 explains Artur Popko.<\/p>\n

Construction works began in\u00a0November 2017 and lasted nearly 30 months. The reconstruction of the Racib\u00f3rz Dolny reservoir was commissioned by\u00a0the Regional Water Management Authority in\u00a0Gliwice. The budget of the project comes from the funds of the World Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank, the European Union, the State Budget and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.<\/p>\n

Budimex has extensive experience in\u00a0the implementation of hydrotechnical investments. As\u00a0a\u00a0general contractor, it rebuilt, among others: the ports in\u00a0\u015awinouj\u015bcie and Szczecin, the P\u0142onie Canal at\u00a0the Martwa Wis\u0142a River in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk and the Rydzyna Water Reservoir. Currently, Budimex is also modernising the ports of Gda\u0144sk and improving access to\u00a0the ports of Gdynia and \u015awinouj\u015bcie.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
