Budimex has completed the renovation and modernisation of the PKP S.A. railway station in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok. On\u00a0October 1, 2020, the station was opened to\u00a0travelers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The scope of work included, on\u00a0the one hand, the restoration of the original appearance of the historic station from the 19th century, and on\u00a0the other hand, its strengthening and protection for the next 100 years of safe operation. The station has been equipped with a\u00a0modern BMS (Building Management System) installation and photovoltaic panels with a\u00a0capacity of 24 kW. The thermal insulation of the building has been significantly improved. The station has been equipped with new sanitary and monitoring installations. Barriers for people with reduced mobility (PRM) have also been eliminated.<\/p>\n

Budimex engaged about 100 subcontractors and suppliers for the construction works, most of them from the Podlasie region. \u2013 The biggest challenge was the underground works, some of which were carried out in\u00a0the white bathtub technology.\u00a0 Very carefully it was also necessary to\u00a0demolish the mezzanine with an area of about 300 m2, located in\u00a0the main hall of the historic station. We\u00a0could not use heavy equipment due to\u00a0its size and fear of possible damage to\u00a0the structures of historic walls. The works were carried out in\u00a0small stages, by\u00a0cutting off individual elements along with their fragmentation and removal from the facility. This required great precision and extreme caution<\/em> \u2013 says Piotr Doroszko, Contract Manager at\u00a0Budimex SA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2013 These are 19 out of 200 stations modernized by\u00a0PKP SA in\u00a0the near future. The station in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok is special. It is a\u00a0historic station from 1862. It is a\u00a0monument of an exceptional class, so special care had to\u00a0be\u00a0taken in\u00a0the reconstruction of this building. Cooperation with the provincial conservator of monuments was particularly important here, which brought a\u00a0visible effect<\/em> \u2013 says Ireneusz Ma\u015blany \u2013 Member of the Management Board of PKP SA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The historic building of the former St. Petersburg-Warsaw railway has been inscribed since 1960. to\u00a0the register of monuments. The facility was built in\u00a01860. and is an example of neo-baroque architecture. The aim of the reconstruction was to\u00a0create a\u00a0high-quality passenger service space, covered by\u00a0clear and visually attractive information, fully adapted to\u00a0the use of the facility by\u00a0people with reduced mobility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Construction works at\u00a0the PKP S.A. station in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok began in\u00a0November 2018. The area of the main station is 2965\u00a0 m2, while the cubic capacity is 23,080 m3. The net value of the investment is PLN 36.6 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Budimex was the general contractor of m.in.\u00a0modernization of another famous historic railway station in\u00a0Wroc\u0142aw and\u00a0 Przemy\u015bl. They were successfully rebuilt and modernized by\u00a0the largest Polish general contractor in\u00a0the years 2010-2012. Currently, Budimex is among the top three largest general contractors for the modernization of railway infrastructure in\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition to\u00a0construction contracts, Budimex has carried out many social initiatives in\u00a0Bia\u0142ystok. In\u00a02019, the company planted over 200 trees in\u00a0the city. It also financed the construction of the Puszczyk Forest Primary School in\u00a0Osowicze. She also built a\u00a0Parent Zone at\u00a0the University Children\u2019s Clinical Hospital im.\u00a0L. Zamenhof.\u00a0<\/p>\n
