\n The report of the Agreement for Safety in\u00a0the Construction Industry shows that during the 10 years of the organization\u2019s activity, the number of victims of accidents on\u00a0construction sites in\u00a0Poland has decreased almost twice, from 8684 to\u00a04743. In\u00a0the construction industry, there are four times fewer fatal accidents per 100,000 today. than a\u00a0decade ago. Much of the credit for this goes to\u00a0the association of the largest construction companies in\u00a0Poland, which works to\u00a0improve work safety.<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

In\u00a0the years 2009-2019 in\u00a0Poland by\u00a045 percent. The number of people who were injured in\u00a0accidents on\u00a0construction sites has decreased. During this time, the number of accidents in\u00a0the entire economy decreased by\u00a0only 4 percent. The largest decrease was recorded among serious accidents (by\u00a075%) and in\u00a0the number of fatal accidents (by\u00a063%). According to\u00a0Eurostat, in\u00a0the years 2009-2018, among all European Union countries, Poland improved safety on\u00a0construction sites the most. From the country with the highest number of fatal accidents per 100,000. (21.49) was among the countries with the lowest rate of the most serious incidents (5.18).<\/p>\n

\u2013 The most important achievement is the decrease in\u00a0the number of accidents on\u00a0Polish construction sites, despite the doubling of the number of construction companies on\u00a0the market and a\u00a0huge increase in\u00a0the number of employees on\u00a0construction sites. We\u00a0have managed to\u00a0achieve this effect thanks to\u00a0consistency and the introduction of the same requirements for all entities. We\u00a0have developed and implemented uniform standards, we\u00a0have raised the level of supervision culture, and health and safety training is at\u00a0an increasingly higher level. Our subcontractors do\u00a0not argue with health and safety requirements, because they know that they will be\u00a0the same for each signatory. Safety is no\u00a0longer a\u00a0taboo subject in\u00a0business talks with our subcontractors and service providers <\/em>\u2013 says Jacek Leczkowski, Vice President of the Management Board of Erbud S.A., who has been the President of the Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction since this year.<\/p>\n

Safety improved the most in\u00a0the largest companies \u2013 the number of injured people in\u00a0them decreased from 2490 in\u00a02009. to\u00a01311 in\u00a02018. For years, the highest percentage of accident victims (about 60 percent) have been employees with at\u00a0most one year of work experience and those who have worked for 2-3 years. At\u00a0the same time, in\u00a0the years 2009-2018, these two groups recorded the largest decrease in\u00a0the\u00a0number of victims. Accidents on\u00a0construction sites are most often suffered by\u00a0the least qualified auxiliary workers, some of whom are foreigners. According to\u00a0the National Labour Inspectorate, foreign workers on\u00a0construction sites often do\u00a0not have experience and construction qualifications as\u00a0well as\u00a0knowledge of the Polish language, which has a\u00a0negative impact on\u00a0work safety.<\/p>\n

The Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction has a\u00a0key impact on\u00a0the functioning of the construction industry in\u00a0Poland. According to\u00a0revenues for 2019. there are nine members of the Agreement in\u00a0the top ten largest construction companies. The revenues of the companies belonging to\u00a0the organization account for 56% of all revenues of the 50 largest companies in\u00a0Poland. The mission of the largest general contractors associated in\u00a0the Agreement is to\u00a0reduce the number of accidents on\u00a0construction sites by\u00a0promoting a\u00a0culture of safety, raising awareness of the dangers associated with work on\u00a0the construction site and preventing risks and accidents.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0business partner cooperating with the signatories of the Agreement faces the same health and safety requirements in\u00a0the contract. The Agreement has one system of mandatory OHS training\u00a0. An effective tool for popularizing the OHS culture in\u00a0the industry is the Safety Week<\/strong> organized by\u00a0the Agreement. It is held under the honorary patronage of the Chief Labour Inspector. It is the largest initiative in\u00a0Poland to\u00a0promote the culture of health and safety, which gathers thousands of participants every year. The report \u201cPolish construction in\u00a0the years 2009-2019. The state of safety and the activities of the Agreement for Safety in\u00a0the Construction Industry\u201d is a\u00a0summary of the activities of the general contractors\u2019 organizations, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The initiative of the Agreement would not have come to\u00a0fruition without the involvement of visionaries such as\u00a0Mr. Wiktor Piwkowski, chairman of the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians. He\u00a0was the originator of the whole project. In\u00a0turn, Mr. Tadeusz Zaj\u0105c, the Chief Labour Inspector, actively sought ways to\u00a0solve the problem of accidents in\u00a0the construction industry. He\u00a0personally paid a\u00a0visit to\u00a0the presidents of the largest construction companies and offered cooperation. A\u00a0great contribution to\u00a0the creation of the Agreement was also made by\u00a0Mr. Zbigniew Janowski, the chairman of the Construction Trade Union, who is known for his activities to\u00a0improve safety in\u00a0the construction industry in\u00a0the Labour Protection Council at\u00a0the Polish Parliament<\/em> \u2013 sums up Jacek Leczkowski.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n
