Work on\u00a0the construction of a\u00a0new 496 MW power unit at\u00a0the Tur\u00f3w Power Plant, owned by\u00a0PGE G\u00f3rnictwo i\u00a0Energetyka Konwencjonalna, is entering the final phase of implementation. December 21 at\u00a015:36 The unit was synchronized with the National Power System (PPS) for the first time. Thus, the process of conducting the control operation of technological systems and their optimization as\u00a0well as\u00a0the production of electricity in\u00a0the newly built power unit began. The general contractor of the investment is a\u00a0consortium of Mitsubishi Power Europe, Tecnicas Reunidas and Budimex.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The process of first synchronization of the generator of unit No. 7 with the National Power System was carried out as\u00a0planned and with the first synchronization program agreed with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne. This is the final stage of one
of the largest and most modern investment projects in\u00a0the Polish energy sector in\u00a0recent decades,\u201d says <\/em>Wioletta Czemiel-Grzybowska, President of the Management Board of PGE GiEK.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0the installations of unit No. 7, before the commencement of synchronization, the commissioning of the entire auxiliary power system of the unit (m.in.: MV and LV\u00a0switchgear, guaranteed voltage supply system, emergency power supply system and equipment drive systems) and the power output power system from unit No. 7 to\u00a0the Miku\u0142\u00f3w power station (m.in.\u00a0generator, 21 kV system with generator circuit breaker, unit transformers, a\u00a0tap transformer and a\u00a0standby-start transformer, a\u00a0400 kV switchgear with a\u00a0block circuit breaker and the protection systems of these devices). These activities were preceded by\u00a0the preparation of electrical systems and\u00a0Unit No. 7. Detailed arrangements were also made with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, which allowed the decisive phase of the start-up of unit No. 7 to\u00a0begin \u2013 the boiler was ignited, the appropriate steam parameters were obtained, and then the turbine set speed of 3000 rpm was obtained, allowing for the first synchronization of the generator of unit No. 7 with the National Power System.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the first period, after the unit is synchronised with the grid, the production of electricity of the generator of unit No. 7 will be\u00a0carried out at\u00a0the level of approx. 40-45% of its rated power, i.e.: about 200 MW. The use of the latest technologies will allow to\u00a0obtain a\u00a0high rate of over 43 percent. efficiency of electricity production. In\u00a0its current form, the Tur\u00f3w Power Plant is able to\u00a0supply electricity to\u00a0about 2.3 million households. After the completion of the construction, the Tur\u00f3w energy complex will be\u00a0able to\u00a0supply electricity to\u00a0an additional million households,\u201d he\u00a0said <\/em>Oktawian Le\u015bniewski, acting\u00a0director of the Tur\u00f3w Power Plant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new unit will meet strict environmental protection standards. Sulphur dioxide emissions, compared to\u00a0the previously shut down units No. 8, 9 and 10, will be\u00a0almost 20 times lower, and dust emissions about 10 times lower. In\u00a0addition, the unit will be\u00a0characterized by\u00a0CO2<\/sub> emissions of approx. 15 per cent. lower than the currently operating power units at\u00a0the Tur\u00f3w Power Plant. The new unit is also adapted to\u00a0the emission rigors resulting from the BAT conclusions, which will come into force in\u00a02021 and assume the implementation of the best and most environmentally friendly technologies available.<\/p>\n

The investment is being carried out by\u00a0a\u00a0consortium of Mitsubishi Power Europe, Tecnicas Reunidas and Budimex. The commencement of works on\u00a0the construction site, i.e. the implementation phase of the investment, began in\u00a0December 2014. The unit with a\u00a0gross electrical capacity of 496 MW, with a\u00a0pulverized steam boiler with supercritical parameters, will be\u00a0fired with lignite from the nearby Tur\u00f3w Mine. The new unit, after its commissioning, will allow to\u00a0completely rebuild the capacity of the Tur\u00f3w Power Plant. The seven power units operating at\u00a0that time, including\u00a0the completely modernized units No. 1-3, will have a\u00a0capacity of over 2,000 MW. The parameters of the new unit have been selected in\u00a0such a\u00a0way as\u00a0to\u00a0fully and\u00a0effectively use the lignite resources in\u00a0the deposit of the Tur\u00f3w Lignite Mine by\u00a0the end of its operation in\u00a02044, while maintaining all environmental norms and standards.<\/p>\n

The contract in\u00a0Tur\u00f3w is Budimex\u2019s key energy contract and currently the largest ongoing energy investment in\u00a0Poland. The construction, which has been carried out for seven years, is being completed during the difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this, we\u00a0will complete the contract to\u00a0the end, in\u00a0accordance with the investor\u2019s expectations. The technologies used in\u00a0the implementation of the investment use the latest solutions of conventional energy m.in.\u00a0from Polish, Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy and Canada. The commissioning of the unit and connection to\u00a0the national power grid is a\u00a0confirmation of the high competence of the consortium and the entire team of consortium engineers and our subcontractors <\/em>\u2013 says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tur\u00f3w complex is an important element of the Polish power system, contributing to\u00a0ensuring Polish\u2019s energy security and stable electricity supply. It is responsible for approx. 5 per cent. domestic energy production. The mine and power plant are also one of the\u00a0most important and largest industrial plants in\u00a0this part of Lower Silesia and the largest employer in\u00a0the region. Employment directly in\u00a0the Mine and Power Plant, in\u00a0subsidiaries and cooperating entities provides a\u00a0stable existence for about 60-80\u00a0thousand people, including the families of employees.<\/p>\n
