Works related to\u00a0the expansion of the Silesian Planetarium in\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w are underway. The investment worth PLN 74.5 million net includes the modernization of the existing facilities and the construction of a\u00a0new part of the building. The former planetarium will increase its area by\u00a0over 3 thousand square meters. The construction site is working normally, despite the winter break \u2013 the modernization and expansion of the facility is nearly 50% advanced. The contractual deadline for the completion of construction works expires at\u00a0the end of August 2021. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Currently, reinforced concrete works are underway at\u00a0the new facility D and renovation works at\u00a0the \u201cold planetarium\u201d facilities A, B\u00a0and C. The building of the Silesian Planetarium was erected in\u00a0the 50s of the twentieth century, currently entered into the register of monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship under the number A\/399\/13, remains under the protection of the Municipal Conservator of Monuments in\u00a0Chorz\u00f3w.<\/p>\n

The facility consists of three parts for different purposes and a\u00a0completely different structure. The main parts of the building that Budimex is currently modernising and adapting to\u00a0the needs and requirements of the investor are the Planetarium, the Observatory and the auxiliary building. The existing and the newly designed part will be\u00a0connected by\u00a0a\u00a0panoramic elevator, located at\u00a0the western wall of the clock courtyard.<\/p>\n

Expansion and modernization of the facility<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 The scope of the project includes the expansion of the Planetarium, which requires interference in\u00a0the structure of the existing building. The connection of the facilities is made by\u00a0making underground corridors in\u00a0the place of two expansion joints of the auxiliary building and making a\u00a0basement in\u00a0the outline of the courtyard of the auxiliary building, intended for exhibition purposes<\/em>. \u2013 explains Mateusz Le\u017ca\u0144ski, Contract Manager. The newly designed part of the Planetarium is largely below ground level and will be\u00a0made in\u00a0reinforced concrete technology. Foundations, walls, columns, ceilings\u00a0 will be\u00a0made as\u00a0monolithic reinforced concrete. A\u00a0large part of the walls, columns and ceilings will be\u00a0made in\u00a0architectural concrete technology. Currently, Budimex is in\u00a0the process of carrying out complex geotechnical works at\u00a0the interface with the existing building and inside the basements, aimed at\u00a0securing the existing foundations of historic buildings and securing excavations. The entire palisade of drilled piles will be\u00a0fastened with ground anchors and steel ties. \u2013 During geotechnical works and excavations, the building of the Silesian Planetarium remains under our constant observation. We\u00a0use a\u00a0comprehensive monitoring system that includes m.in.\u00a0measurement of displacements and vibration monitoring. Access to\u00a0the measured parameters is provided through unique data visualization and reporting systems<\/em>\u00a0 \u2013 explains Mateusz Le\u017ca\u0144ski.<\/p>\n

The new part of the facility will be\u00a0connected to\u00a0the existing underground corridors. In\u00a0the future\u00a0 , the courtyard will become an exhibition hall, on\u00a0the roof of which a\u00a0sundial will be\u00a0recreated. On\u00a0the fa\u00e7ade of the main building \u201cA\u201d, new dolomite slabs were installed, which, in\u00a0accordance with the guidelines of the conservator of monuments, come from Libi\u0105\u017c. In\u00a0the historic building of the Silesian Planetarium, the main projection room will also be\u00a0modernized, which will be\u00a0equipped with new seats, a\u00a0screen, and sound and projection systems.<\/p>\n

Next to\u00a0the Planetarium, an observation tower will be\u00a0built, from which you will be\u00a0able to\u00a0admire the panorama of Katowice, Siemianowice \u015al\u0105skie and Chorz\u00f3w. This building will be\u00a0completed at\u00a0a\u00a0later stage, after the necessary underfloor installations have been completed, including a\u00a0ground heat exchanger, transit ducts and a\u00a0foundation slab. \u2013 The tower is a\u00a0very complicated facility in\u00a0terms of implementation, because it is closely related to\u00a0the installation of an elevator with the Camera Obscura function (Latin for optical darkroom \u2013 the prototype of a\u00a0photographic camera \u2013 editor\u2019s note)<\/em> \u2013 explains the Contract Manager.<\/p>\n
