In\u00a0the presence of the Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation Marek Gr\u00f3barczyk, the Government Plenipotentiary for the Restructuring of the Hard Coal Mining Industry Adam Gaw\u0119da, the Member of the Council of Ministers Micha\u0142 Wo\u015b, senators and deputies to\u00a0the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the 8th term, the President of the State Water Holding Polish Waters and the Director of the Regional Water Management Authority \u0141ukasz Lange, on\u00a010 October this year. at\u00a0the construction site of the Racib\u00f3rz Dolny reservoir, Gliwice Polish Waters, together with the Contractor for construction works \u2013 a\u00a0consortium of Budimex S.A. (leader) and Ferrovial Agroman S.A., changed the course of the Odra River, allowing its course through the Overflow and Drain Structure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The hydrotechnical operation, carried out with the utmost care, proves the material progress of works (85%) of this largest flood protection investment in\u00a0the country. As\u00a0a\u00a0result of the overvoltage of the Odra River to\u00a0the key hydrotechnical facility of the reservoir under construction, water flowed through the channel leading to\u00a0the spans of the structure, and after crossing them, it went to\u00a0the drainage channel and then to\u00a0the Relief Canal.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, Marek Gr\u00f3barczyk, emphasized the importance of the investment for the flood safety of residents. He\u00a0also pointed to\u00a0the prospect of transforming the reservoir into a\u00a0multifunctional facility in\u00a0the future. He\u00a0also thanked all participants of the investment process.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

As\u00a0the Director of Gliwice Polish Waters, \u0141ukasz Lange, pointed out, work on\u00a0the concept of changing the reservoir\u2019s function will begin soon, thanks to\u00a0the funds secured for this purpose.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The passage of the waters of the Odra River through the BPS was also an opportunity for the President of Polish Waters, Przemys\u0142aw Daca, to\u00a0emphasize the role of the contractor in\u00a0this important contract, its reliability, sense of responsibility and duty, proper to\u00a0a\u00a0trustworthy partner.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

During a\u00a0meeting at\u00a0the construction site, Artur Popko, Vice-President of the Management Board of Budimex SA, announced that the tank under construction will achieve its functionality with the continuity of all dams, which will take place later this year.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The operation was possible thanks to\u00a0the gate valves previously installed on\u00a0this facility, which regulate the flow of water. The Overflow and Drain structure is equipped with 6 main gate valves, the operation of which will be\u00a0carried out mechanically (manually) and automatically (remotely). Each of the gate valves has dimensions of 12 m x\u00a0over 8.5 m in\u00a0height, and is lifted to\u00a0nearly 9 m.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The capacity of the facility is 185 million m\u00b3, and the area of the polder is over 26 km\u00b2. The facility will reduce flood waves of catastrophic floods on\u00a0the Oder River, protecting the life, health and property of the inhabitants of the three provinces on\u00a0the Oder River \u2013 2.5 million people. The reservoir will cover an area of about 600 km\u00b2 with direct and indirect impacts.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The value of the contract is estimated at\u00a0approx. PLN 2 billion. The budget of the project comes from the funds of the World Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank, the European Union, the State Budget, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.<\/p>\n
