On\u00a0October 20 (Sunday), the new air traffic control tower of Katowice Pyrzowice Airport, the tallest in\u00a0Poland and one of the most modern in\u00a0Europe, began work. The investor was the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. The construction of the facility was carried out by\u00a0Budimex SA in\u00a0the \u201cbuild\u201d and \u201cturnkey\u201d system. The construction works were completed after only 8 months from the start of the works.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00a0part of the investment, commissioned by\u00a0the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, Budimex SA built an air traffic control tower with an administrative and technical building, a\u00a0guardhouse and an autonomous technical building. Before the building was put into use, on-site activities were underway to\u00a0redirect air traffic from the old facility to\u00a0the new one.<\/p>\n

The new tower of Katowice Airport is 45.75 m high and ranks among the most innovative facilities of this type in\u00a0Europe. The building also has the highest operating level with the controllers\u2019 room, located at\u00a0a\u00a0height of 41 meters. The entire facility with an area of over 1.8 thousand. sqm. It houses airport control and approach rooms, technical and office rooms and all social facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat distinguishes our project is not only the height of the facility, but also the use of state-of-the-art technologies in\u00a0its construction<\/em> ,\u201d says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA. \u2013 The fa\u00e7ade of the tower is made of aluminum composite panels, thanks to\u00a0which it absorbs the energy of the electromagnetic field. The structure of the upper floors is also unusual. From 31 meters, cantilevered ceilings based on\u00a0prestressed beams were used in\u00a0the building<\/em> \u2013Adds.<\/p>\n

The construction of a\u00a0new air traffic control tower at\u00a0the Katowice airport is a\u00a0consequence of investments carried out by\u00a0the airport manager in\u00a0recent years. The facility was needed m.in.\u00a0due to\u00a0the fact that the layout of the port\u2019s manoeuvring area and aprons has been changed and the infrastructure has been moved to\u00a0the east. In\u00a0the following months, after the completion of the construction works carried out by\u00a0Budimex SA, the operating systems and procedures were checked several times to\u00a0ensure the proper functioning of the facility and, consequently, the safety of travellers. Tenders for the purchase and installation of navigation equipment were also held.<\/p>\n

Over the last 30 years, Budimex has carried out most of the largest airport investments in\u00a0Poland at\u00a0passenger airports in: Warsaw, Gda\u0144sk, Katowice, Krak\u00f3w, Szymany and Goleni\u00f3w. At\u00a0the moment, Budimex is expanding m.in.\u00a0Runway at\u00a0the Airport. Fryderyk Chopin in\u00a0Warsaw.<\/p>\n
