\n On\u00a0Friday, 1 February 2019, Budimex handed over a\u00a0ten-kilometre section of the Olsztyn bypass on\u00a0the S51 road from the Jaroty junction to\u00a0the Olsztyn East junction to\u00a0the General Directorate for Roads and Motorways for use. The works were completed before the contract deadline planned for 29.04.2019. Work is underway on\u00a0the remaining five-kilometre section from the Jaroty junction to\u00a0the west. It will be\u00a0put into service by\u00a0July <\/strong>
\n 2019. After the completion of works on\u00a0this section, the entire 24 km long Olsztyn bypass will be\u00a0passable.<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

As\u00a0part of the investment, three road junctions were created \u2013 Jaroty, Pieczewo and Olsztyn East. The investor of the bypass is the Olsztyn Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The project is co-financed by\u00a0the Cohesion Fund. The total value of the contract is over PLN 1 billion gross. Works related to\u00a0the construction of the Olsztyn bypass began in\u00a0July 2016.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n Momentum and modernity of construction<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

The numbers accompanying the contact are impressive. During the earthworks and preparation of the sites, Budimex removed approx.\u00a0 400 thousandm3<\/sup> of humus, i.e. a\u00a0layer of plant soil, made over 2 millionm3 <\/sup>of excavations and laid a\u00a0total of approx. 500,000m2 (350,000 tonnes) of bituminous pavement. In\u00a0order to\u00a0stabilise the marshy and boggy area where the bypass was built, 7 million tonnes of soil had to\u00a0be\u00a0fertilised in\u00a0this place \u2013 this is the equivalent of the volume of 5 National Stadiums in\u00a0Warsaw \u2013 <\/em>says Dariusz\u00a0 Blocher, President of Budimex. <\/em>There were also approx. 7 thousand m2 of acoustic screens. During the bridge works, 3.5 thousand tons of steel structure, 5.7 thousand tons of reinforcing steel and 51 thousand m3 of structural concrete were made. The biggest engineering\u00a0 challenge was the bridge over the \u0141yna River, which is a\u00a0single-span steel structure with a\u00a0reinforced concrete structure. \u201d This bridge, 138 m long, was built on\u00a0a\u00a0boggy area, so it required great precision in\u00a0planning and executing construction activities <\/em>,\u201d says Dariusz Blocher. In\u00a0the investment, Budimex also used modern construction solutions, e.g. composite reinforcement, which, as\u00a0more resistant to\u00a0negative environmental factors, does not require costly repairs, related to, for example, corrosion of the structure. In\u00a0turn, drones were used for geodetic measurements.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n The work is still ongoing, m.in.\u00a0due to\u00a0subsidence of the ground, which is very unstable in\u00a0the vicinity of Bart\u0105g. We\u00a0have replaced over 1 million m3 of organic soil on\u00a0the entire bypass as\u00a0a\u00a0reinforcement of the road structure, but in\u00a0this one place we\u00a0have to\u00a0<\/em>
\n wait until the overload embankment stops settling <\/em>
\n The surface will settle completely and the necessary work can be\u00a0completed. I\u00a0am\u00a0convinced that drivers will appreciate the investment, which will make traveling in\u00a0this region of Polish much easier. It is also an extremely important undertaking from the city\u2019s point of view, as\u00a0it will allow to\u00a0move transit traffic out of Olsztyn and reduce the burden on\u00a0internal streets. This long-awaited road will certainly play a\u00a0strategic communication role,\u201d says Dariusz Taraszkiewicz, Director of the Budimex Region for the Province of Budimex. \n Scope of work on\u00a0the S51 <\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition to\u00a0the main route, the works carried out by\u00a0Budimex also include the construction of three road junctions \u2013 Olsztyn Jaroty, Olsztyn Pieczewo and Olsztyn East, service roads and the renovation of sections of selected local roads.<\/p>\n

The project assumed the creation of two roadways with two lanes in\u00a0each direction with a\u00a0bituminous surface and 23 bridge structures: 12 viaducts over the expressway, 3 viaducts along the expressway, 2 bridges, 2 animal crossings, 1 railway viaduct, 1 footbridge. The contract also included the construction of road body drainage facilities, road ditches, rainwater drainage, retention reservoirs, lighting, power grids, and teletechnical equipment. Budimex was also responsible for the creation of the Traffic Management System.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Olsztyn bypass is not the only investment of Budimex in\u00a0the province of Olsztyn. Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The company is also building ul.\u00a0Towarowa in\u00a0Olsztyn worth PLN 103 million, it is also building a\u00a0viaduct over the railway line in\u00a0Ostr\u00f3da and rebuilding national road No. 53 in\u00a0Szczytno.<\/p>\n
