From 13 to\u00a019 May, \u00a0the 6th Safety Week will be\u00a0held at\u00a0several hundred construction sites in\u00a0Poland, carried out by\u00a0the signatories of the Agreement for Safety in\u00a0the Construction Industry. This is the largest initiative in\u00a0Poland to\u00a0improve safety on\u00a0construction sites in\u00a0our country. The campaign was held under the patronage of the Chief Labour Inspector.<\/p>\n

The Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction, established by\u00a0the largest general construction contractors operating in\u00a0Poland, has been organizing the \u201cSafety Week\u201d for the sixth year in\u00a0a\u00a0row. Every year, the scale of the project is huge \u2013 last year alone, the campaign covered almost 40,000\u00a0employees in\u00a0several hundred different locations.<\/p>\n

\n The number of accidents in\u00a0the construction industry is decreasing<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

Construction is on\u00a0the 2nd floor. among the industries in\u00a0which workplace accidents occur most often. According to\u00a0the National Labour Inspectorate, in\u00a02018 540 people were injured in\u00a0accidents at\u00a0work, including 70 who lost their lives. And this means that at\u00a0least one person dies on\u00a0the construction site every week. In\u00a0accidents investigated by\u00a0labour inspectors, 171 people suffered serious injuries (in\u00a02017 there were 215).<\/p>\n

For several years, the number of accidents in\u00a0the construction industry has been regularly decreasing. According to\u00a0the latest data from the Central Statistical Office, compared to\u00a0last year, the number of people injured in\u00a0accidents at\u00a0work decreased by\u00a03 percent.<\/p>\n

The overarching and unchanging goal of the Agreement is to\u00a0achieve zero fatal accidents among the members of the Agreement in\u00a0the coming years.<\/p>\n

\n Never cut corners<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

\u201cSafety Week is an important project for the construction industry. The slogan of this year\u2019s edition is \u201cNever take shortcuts\u201d. Despite our strenuous efforts and the hard work of all of us, unfortunately, in\u00a02018 11 employees from our companies \u2013 signatories of the Agreement \u2013 died. We\u00a0refer to\u00a0each of the employees. Together we\u00a0create a\u00a0team, we\u00a0work for common success. Everyone has an impact on\u00a0their own and others\u2019 safety. Our working conditions are dynamic, often unpredictable and changeable. Someone may not take care of something, but someone else may notice the danger. The most important thing is not to\u00a0take shortcuts and not to\u00a0make your work easier at\u00a0the expense of your own safety and the safety of others \u2013 <\/em>says Leszek Go\u0142\u0105biecki, President of the Agreement for Security.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Safety Week will include, m.in, first aid training on\u00a0construction sites, workshops and presentations of health and safety practices on\u00a0construction sites, safety demonstrations, lectures by\u00a0PIP inspectors. \u2013 We\u00a0have also prepared new guides for construction site managers to\u00a0increase the level of safety on\u00a0the construction site. The OHS Ideas Book 2019 suggests over 30 activities with construction site workers \u2013 <\/em>adds Go\u0142\u0105biecki.<\/p>\n

\n New ideas, new activities<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

One of the tips included in\u00a0the manual includes the installation of boards on\u00a0construction sites with photos of close employees. The \u201cWho do\u00a0I\u00a0work safely for?\u201d board aims to\u00a0make employees aware that they are working safely not only for themselves, but also for their family and friends. The board is to\u00a0remind them that their loved ones are waiting for them and that they should also take care of their safety for their sake \u2013 so that they can return home safe and sound after work every day. This is an additional motivation and incentive to\u00a0work safely <\/em>\u2013 adds Go\u0142\u0105biecki.<\/p>\n

For the first time in\u00a0the history of the Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction, professional First Aid Championships will be\u00a0held as\u00a0part of the Safety Week. They will take place on\u00a0May 14-15, and the arena of the participants\u2019 struggles will be\u00a0the complex in\u00a0Sierpc. 12 three-person teams, consisting of representatives of PBB signatories, will fight for the championship title. The teams will not only compete for the title of the best team, but above all they will improve their first aid skills. Competitions based on\u00a0simulated scenes will allow you to\u00a0test yourself in\u00a0conditions as\u00a0close to\u00a0real as\u00a0possible. The competition will include providing assistance to\u00a0traumatic victims, anaphylactic, septic, cardio- and neurogenic shock, and burned victims. Participants will face an emergency, the need for resuscitation for adults and children, and automatic external defibrillation. The skills and rescue talent of the competitors will be\u00a0assessed by\u00a0judges who work as\u00a0paramedics on\u00a0a\u00a0daily basis.<\/p>\n

\n Cooperation and support<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

For years, during the Safety Week, the organizers of the campaign have been cooperating with many institutions
and companies that work to\u00a0raise health and safety standards on\u00a0Polish construction sites.<\/p>\n

The nationwide campaign was held under the patronage of the Chief Labour Inspector. \u201cEvery action that shows how important safety on\u00a0construction sites is is close to\u00a0my\u00a0heart. Especially one that is professionally prepared and in\u00a0which tens of thousands of construction industry workers participate,\u201d says Wies\u0142aw \u0141yszczek, Chief Labour Inspector. \u201cAt the same time, we\u00a0must remember that the Construction Safety Week should last\u2026 all year round. Because every day we\u00a0should remember to\u00a0follow the rules of safe work and cooperation in\u00a0this area at\u00a0every stage of the construction process.<\/p>\n

\n Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

The Agreement for Safety in\u00a0Construction has been in\u00a0existence for nine years. It was established in\u00a02010. on\u00a0the initiative of the Chief Labour Inspector. Initially, the signatories of the Agreement were seven general contractors. Due to\u00a0the open nature of the organization, new members soon joined the Agreement.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Agreement is made up of 15 of the largest general construction contractors in\u00a0the country, the signatories of the Agreement: Budimex, Erbud, Hochtief Polska, Karmar,\u00a0 Mostostal Warszawa, Mota-Engil, Polimex Mostostal, Porr, Skanska, Strabag, Unibep and Warbud, as\u00a0well as\u00a0three associated members MCKB, REMBOR General and NDI.<\/p>\n

The alliance was established with the aim of eliminating accidents on\u00a0construction sites by\u00a0promoting safe behaviour, improving safety standards and working conditions, and developing a\u00a0culture of health and safety.<\/p>\n

The strength of the Agreement lies in\u00a0the knowledge and experience gained during the implementation of both large and small construction projects, including joint analysis of accidents. As\u00a0part of the cooperation, the member companies have set up a\u00a0platform for the exchange of knowledge in\u00a0the field of security. This is achieved, for example, by\u00a0sending alerts about fatal accidents and regular meetings of OHS managers, during which m.in are discussed. causes and circumstances of fatal events. Such actions allow you to\u00a0draw conclusions for the future, avoid mistakes made earlier,
and prevent similar accidents from occurring.<\/p>\n

The agreement is open to\u00a0others \u2013 it invites responsible contractors, subcontractors, and construction industry environment organizations to\u00a0cooperate.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
