\n ORLEN Asfalt and Budimex rely on\u00a0modern technologies that reduce the costs of road construction and improve their durability. Orlen Asfalt, Grupa LOTOS and Budimex have signed an agreement with a\u00a0scientific consortium consisting of the Gda\u0144sk University of Technology, the Warsaw University of Technology and the Road and Bridge Research Institute for the implementation of a\u00a0research programme on\u00a0the modernisation of asphalt pavements using polymer-modified bitumen.<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

The companies and scientists want to\u00a0confirm the positive impact of modified bitumens on\u00a0the durability of road surfaces, and consequently on\u00a0the reduction of road construction and maintenance costs. The results of the research, which will be\u00a0known next year, should show the advantages of asphalt pavements with polymer modified bitumens and their competitiveness compared to\u00a0cement concrete pavements.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n \u2013 The road network is a\u00a0key element of the national economy. ORLEN Asfalt, as\u00a0an ORLEN Group company, feels co-responsible for the development of the road industry. Therefore, as\u00a0a\u00a0supplier of advanced bitumen, we\u00a0have been placing a\u00a0strong emphasis on\u00a0research and technological development of materials for years. The project is to\u00a0enable the extensive use of the latest technical and material knowledge to\u00a0optimize the construction of the road network. It will bring tangible results both for the country and for road users. The support of this project by\u00a0the Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) proves that \u00a0this is an important step in\u00a0the development of road construction technology in\u00a0Poland,\u201d says Marek Pietrzak, President of the Management Board of ORLEN Asfalt.<\/strong><\/em>\n <\/p>\n

The works will be\u00a0carried out as\u00a0part of the program \u201cOptimization of the asphalt road surface structure through the use of modified bitumen\u201d. The researchers will investigate the impact of using modified bitumens and PMB HiMA in\u00a0place of the road bitumens used so far, for different layers of the pavement structure.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Currently, the arrangement of pavement layers and their thickness are most often determined on\u00a0the basis of the Catalogue of Typical Pavement Structures. However, the layer thicknesses included in\u00a0it were calculated assuming the use of only road bitumens (not modified). The research conducted by\u00a0the scientists is to\u00a0enable the calculation of the pavement structure in\u00a0such a\u00a0way that it is possible to\u00a0add new cards to\u00a0the Catalogue, taking into account the use of polymer-modified and highly polymer-modified bitumen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

ORLEN Asfalt is one of the largest suppliers of bitumen binders used in\u00a0the production of road surfaces in\u00a0Poland and Central Europe. It offers bitumens from five production plants located in\u00a0Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. In\u00a02014. the company was the first to\u00a0introduce a\u00a0group of polymer-modified products to\u00a0our market \u2013 ORBITON HiMA \u2013 which is today one of the fastest growing directions in\u00a0road surface construction technology.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n
