Budimex has officially handed over a\u00a0newly built tram line, including full track and power infrastructure, to\u00a0Warsaw Trams. From 28.10 this year, the residents of Warsaw will have the opportunity to\u00a0use the new tram line leading to\u00a0Wilan\u00f3w, up to\u00a0the final stop at\u00a0Branickiego Street. The completion of the entire investment is expected at\u00a0the end of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>

In order to\u00a0launch the newly designed tram line called “Tram to\u00a0Wilan\u00f3w”, which is over 8 thousand meters long, the general contractor has so far completed over 19 km of tracks, 20 km of overhead contact line and 16 km of suspension cables. The total area of sedum (green separation strip) on\u00a0the track will be\u00a029 thousand square meters. The tram to\u00a0Wilan\u00f3w is a\u00a0strategic investment for Warsaw and its inhabitants and the longest new tram line in\u00a0Poland. In\u00a0order to\u00a0ensure adequate power supply to\u00a0the traction network, Budimex installed 256 km of cables, 380 traction poles and 25 platforms along the entire route of the tram to\u00a0Wilan\u00f3w, and built four traction substations, including the first underground, two-level substation in\u00a0Poland at\u00a0Spacerowa and Belwederska Streets.<\/p>

” We are proud that thanks to\u00a0our work, the city’s residents will be\u00a0able to\u00a0use modern and comfortable transport, which is part of the long-term strategy of sustainable development of Warsaw. It is an investment that not only improves mobility, but above all supports ecological solutions in\u00a0public space<\/em> ,” sums up Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.<\/p>

During the implementation, several dozen kilometers of installations were rebuilt: water supply systems, heat pipelines, sanitary and rainwater drainage systems, as\u00a0well as\u00a0electricity networks of various voltages and Internet networks. To\u00a0this end, the general contractor has brought over 250 thousand tons of sand, 200 thousand tons of aggregate and transported over 700 thousand tons of material from the excavation.<\/p>

– The scale of this investment is impressive. We\u00a0transported and managed over a\u00a0million tons of loose materials, including soil, sand and aggregate, and we\u00a0laid 35 kilometers of track. We\u00a0have rebuilt 235 power collisions, and the overhead contact line, including support lines, on\u00a0the eight-kilometre route is over 35 kilometres long. We\u00a0have laid almost 250 kilometers of traction and control cables alone. If you count all these elements, including the length of cabling and underground networks, it gives us an impressive length \u2013 equal to\u00a0the route from Warsaw to\u00a0Wroc\u0142aw! <\/em>\u2013 sums up Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.<\/p>

According to\u00a0the Ordering Party’s design, the tram line is only 1\/9 of the value of the entire investment implemented for the residents of Mokot\u00f3w and Wilan\u00f3w. By\u00a0the end of 2025,  road works and works related to\u00a0the construction of a\u00a0rainwater drainage system will be\u00a0carried out. According to\u00a0the investor’s decision, the greenery will be\u00a0planted on\u00a0the basis of a\u00a0newly created project, which will take into account the reported needs of residents during the investment and any design changes that have taken place so far. Work will continue on\u00a0switching the lighting from the old installation to\u00a0the newly built one. More than 700 people and 200 pieces of equipment, including designers, supervisors and workers, are currently involved in\u00a0the project.<\/p>

On the Mokot\u00f3w section, work is still underway to\u00a0lay curbs at\u00a0pedestrian crossings and sidewalks in\u00a0the area of intersections. Budimex is also carrying out sewage and road works, preparing an aggregate substructure for the asphalt surface on\u00a0the western side of the street. Technical acceptances are also underway, including checking teletechnical installations and adjusting the well and heating network.<\/p>

On the Wilan\u00f3w section, work is progressing related to\u00a0the laying of curbs, edges and the adaptation of sidewalks and bands. At\u00a0the same time, foundations for bicycle paths and new pavements are being made. Despite the opening of the route, passengers may still notice finishing works, and some of the accesses to\u00a0the stops will be\u00a0temporary.<\/p>

Budimex makes every effort to\u00a0put into operation subsequent intersections on\u00a0an ongoing basis and to\u00a0restore traffic flow by\u00a0providing residents with new pavements and bicycle paths. On\u00a0the already opened tram line, works related to\u00a0the equipment of small architecture will still be\u00a0carried out, and part of the track requires the last works related to\u00a0laying sedum. Works on\u00a0sections of Pu\u0142awska, Spacerowa and the western roadway of Belwederska will be\u00a0continued this year, weather conditions permitting. The key objective is to\u00a0ensure safe pedestrian and bicycle traffic in\u00a0the area of intersections.<\/p>

The completion of road works on\u00a0St. Bonifacy Street is planned for the third quarter of 2025, while the full completion of works on\u00a0Belwederska Street, Sobieskiego Avenue and Rzeczypospolitej Avenue \u2013 in\u00a0the fourth quarter of 2025, in\u00a0accordance with the currently adopted schedule.<\/p>

During the construction process, Budimex is conducting the Przystanek Ziele\u0144 campaign. The initiative aims to\u00a0green the areas along the tram line under construction. A\u00a0total of 510 trees have already been planted as\u00a0part of it.<\/p>
