As part of the construction of the new T3 Terminal at the Baltic Hub at the Port of Gdansk, carried out by the consortium of Budimex and DEME Dredging, a ship with the first four modern STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes arrived at the terminal’s quay, which will become an integral part of the transshipment infrastructure. This is one of the key stages of the investment, which aims to increase the handling capacity of the Baltic Hub from 2.9 million to 4.5 million TEU per year. The progress of works on the construction of the T3 Terminal has reached 70%.<\/strong><\/p>

The construction of the T3 Terminal at Baltic Hub, which is the largest container terminal in Poland and the Baltic Sea, carried out by the Budimex SA Group, required complex hydrotechnical works, including the creation of an artificial island, dredging of the seabed and the construction of the main quay. Thanks to the completion of this stage of work, it was possible to deliver and install 4 STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes, which are 96 meters high (140 m  with the boom raised) and weigh almost 2000 tons each. The first ship with cranes sailed from China for two months and on 27 October this year it entered the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk and then moored at the T3 Terminal.<\/p>

The works carried out by the consortium of Budimex and DEME Dredging on the construction of the T3 Baltic Hub Terminal are at the 70% stage of completion, and their completion is planned for the end of September 2025. Currently, Budimex is carrying out intensive reinforced concrete works in the southern part of the terminal and is making concrete surfaces on which the vehicles operating the terminal will move. Rails for STS and RMG cranes are also being installed, as well as a number of electrical and telecommunication networks. The terminal covers an area of over 36 hectares, and its 717-metre-long and 17.5-metre-deep transshipment quay will allow for safe and efficient loading and unloading of goods in containers.<\/p>

“We have already used more than 17,500 tonnes of steel to build Terminal T3, equivalent to the weight of 2.4 Eiffel Towers; 4.3 million m3 of sand; 160,000 m3 of concrete to fill 52 Olympic swimming pools. The works are currently carried out 24\/7, and over 500 people are involved in the construction \u2013 <\/em>sums up Piotr Sumila, Contract Director at Budimex SA.<\/strong><\/p>

 <\/strong>As part of the investment, Baltic Hub will purchase a total of 7 STS cranes and 20 semi-automatic RMG cranes, which will be operated remotely, which will significantly improve the comfort and safety of operators. The project involves the implementation of modern, low-emission technological solutions that support sustainable development policy and ecology. In order to protect marine mammals, noise monitoring and special devices were also used to prevent them from approaching areas with intensive work.<\/p>

Since its inception, the Baltic Hub has become a transport gateway for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and the new T3 Terminal will further strengthen its position as the most important transshipment point in the Baltic Sea. Baltic Hub, formerly known as DCT Gdansk, started operations in 2007 and currently has the capacity to handle approx. 3 million TEU (a unit of measurement equivalent to the dimensions of a 20-foot container used in transport) per year. After the expansion with Terminal T3, this capacity will increase to 4.5 million TEU.<\/p>
