Budimex has reached another milestone near Pisarzowa. Three weeks after the completion of works on\u00a0the evacuation tunnel through the “Kinga” shield, the TBM “Jadwiga” shield broke through to\u00a0the other side, completing the drilling of the main railway tunnel on\u00a0the section Limanowa \u2013 Kl\u0119czany siding. Thus, the most technologically difficult stage of the construction of two parallel tunnel structures that will connect M\u0119cina and Mordarka has been completed.<\/p>

This is a\u00a0moment of particular importance not only for the construction itself, but for the entire “Pod\u0142\u0119\u017ce-Piekie\u0142ko” programme \u2013 the largest investment of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe in\u00a0the south of the country. The tunnel under Pisarzowa is its key element. It is about 3750 meters long, and at\u00a0its deepest point it is led under about 120 meters of rock mass. It is this section of the route that will change the parameters of the passage between Limanowa and Nowy S\u0105cz to\u00a0the greatest extent and will affect the future functionality of railway connections in\u00a0the region.<\/p>

The construction was carried out in\u00a0the difficult, mountainous terrain of the Beskid Wyspowy. Two TBM machines were working on\u00a0the construction \u2013 “Kinga”, which had previously completed the evacuation tunnel, and “Jadwiga”, responsible for the main railway tunnel. TBM technology, today the global standard for the construction of long tunnel structures, allows you to\u00a0carry out works continuously and very precisely.<\/p>

– This is the finale of a\u00a0very precisely prepared process. At\u00a0this stage, technology, team experience, construction organization and full control over every detail must meet. The completion of the excavation by\u00a0“Jadwiga” is of particular importance, because it concerns the main object \u2013 the tunnel through which trains will run in\u00a0the future. Such projects were a\u00a0rarity in\u00a0our country a\u00a0few years ago, and today they are becoming a\u00a0real part of modern railways. This shows that on\u00a0the most demanding railway sections in\u00a0Poland, we\u00a0are able to\u00a0effectively combine advanced technology, precise planning and efficient implementation,” says Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA.<\/p>

The “Jadwiga” shield weighs over 2.5 thousand tons and is less than 90 meters long, and its diameter is almost 11 meters. The machine, equipped with a\u00a0rotating face with steel teeth, simultaneously worked during operation, selected the soil and then assembled the concrete tunnel casing. A\u00a0number of installations and equipment were operating at\u00a0its back, including a\u00a0conveyor belt transporting the excavated material, and in\u00a0the opposite direction, MSV (Multi-Service Vehicles) transported, among m.in, prefabricated elements of the casing, produced on\u00a0an ongoing basis in\u00a0a\u00a0nearby prefabrication hall built purpose-built for this project.<\/p>

The finale of “Jadwiga’s” work means that the investment near Pisarzowa is entering a\u00a0new phase. The next stage will be\u00a0the construction of passages between the tunnels and the commencement of finishing works and the installation of equipment and safety systems that will prepare the facility for train traffic. It is a\u00a0transition from the most difficult part of the underground works to\u00a0a\u00a0stage that brings the project closer and closer to\u00a0the final effect.<\/p>

The “Pod\u0142\u0119\u017ce-Piekie\u0142ko” program is to\u00a0ultimately reduce the travel time from Krakow to\u00a0Nowy S\u0105cz to\u00a0about 60 minutes, and from Krakow to\u00a0Zakopane to\u00a0about 90 minutes. It will also improve the parameters of the line and increase the possibilities of freight and passenger transport. The tunnel under Pisarzowa will be\u00a0the first of 13 railway tunnels (a\u00a0total of 20 tunnels, including evacuation tunnels), which will be\u00a0used by\u00a0trains in\u00a0the future as\u00a0part of the entire program.<\/p>

Today, Budimex is one of the most heavily involved contractors in\u00a0the “Pod\u0142\u0119\u017ce-Piekie\u0142ko” programme. The company has already completed the first section of line No. 104 Chab\u00f3wka \u2013 Rabka Zaryte to\u00a0be\u00a0put into operation, is carrying out works on\u00a0the H\u00a0section of line No. 622 Szczyrzyc \u2013 Tymbark, and in\u00a0March 2026 it signed a\u00a0contract for the next stage of the investment \u2013 line No. 622 Pod\u0142\u0119\u017ce \u2013 Gd\u00f3w and slip road No. 627. This commitment is in\u00a0line with Budimex’s broader position on\u00a0the railway market, which also includes such projects as\u00a0Warszawa Zachodnia, Port of Gdynia, Czechowice-Dziedzice, lines 201 and 214 in\u00a0Kashubia and Rail Baltica.<\/p>

The construction of the Limanowa-Kl\u0119czany siding section is being carried out in\u00a0a\u00a0consortium with G\u00fclermak.<\/p><\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n
