Budimex will expand and modernise the Piła Krzewina substation along with switching the 400 kV Piła Krzewina-Plewiska line track operating at 220 kV to 400 kV. The net value of the contract, the implementation of which will take almost 4 years, is PLN 188 million.

The expansion and modernization of the Piła Krzewina substation will enable the connection of new RES installations to the National Power System (NPS) and m.in. by switching the Piła Krzewina – Plewiska line to 400 kV will also significantly reduce the risk of failure, which will guarantee reliable electricity supply, especially to consumers in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship. Currently, one of the lines operates at 220 kV, while the other is out of order. It is one of the most important elements of the PPS – a system built of extra-high voltage networks (220 kV and 400 kV), which allows energy to be transmitted throughout Poland.

The 400 kV Piła Krzewina – Plewiska line built by the client – Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne – is also an important element of the energy transmission system from new sources, e.g. wind farms. „After the modernization of the Piła Krzewina substation and switching the line to 400 kV,  this line will be the pillar of power supply for western and northern Polish. This is a region of the country saturated with wind farms. The possibility of connecting new RES sources to the national energy system is currently one of the biggest challenges of the Polish energy sector.” – says Maciej Olek – Member of the Management Board responsible for m.in. for energy construction Budimex SA.

The Polish network of high and extra-high voltage lines is one of the areas of the Polish power industry requiring the largest investments. We are all the more pleased that  we will be able to support our customer – PSE – in the development of this network” – adds Maciej Olek.

Budimex has extensive experience in the construction of power grids. In December 2023, as part of the implementation of the „Improvement of rail access to the seaport in Gdynia” project, the leader in the general contractor market, began the implementation of a high-voltage reconstruction project to remove collisions between 110 kV overhead lines and the track system under construction. The reconstruction of medium, high and extra-high voltage lines has also been carried out many times by Budimex on the occasion of infrastructure projects such as the construction of expressways and motorways. Budimex as a general contractor also as part of the implementation of energy projects implemented in the EPC m.in formula. „Construction of a new heat and power plant in Vilnius” or „Construction of a new power unit at the Turów Power Plant” performed power evacuations from those facilities that were connected to the 110 kV power system.

These are not the only activities of Budimex on the energy market. In April 2023, BXF Energia was established. Its goal is to invest in and carry out energy projects based on low-emission production. The company will also produce green energy for external customers. The goal for the next 5 years is to have 500 MW of capacity as part of wind and photovoltaic projects.

At the same time, through Budimex Mobility, the general contractor is developing its own network of electric car charging stations. The aim of the entity is to create, build, service and operate a network of publicly available stations throughout the country. So far, about 130 publicly available stations have been built or launched. According to the company’s  strategy, 470 stations are planned to be launched by 2026.
