Budimex has concluded a contract with PKP PLK for the modernisation of railway line No. 148 between Pszczyna and Żory. The project is to be implemented within 31 months. The modernisation will reduce travel and transit times on the Pszczyna – Żory section, enabling freight and passenger trains to reach higher speeds.

As part of the investment, it is planned to replace the tracks and overhead contact line, rebuild rail-road crossings, as well as modernize passenger stops. After the completion of the works, the trains are to accelerate to 120 km/h in the case of passenger trains and up to 100 km/h in the case of freight trains. This will reduce the driving time by 10 minutes – from 32 to 22 minutes. The contract amounts to PLN 258.5 million net.

– The modernization of the railway section will certainly noticeably increase the comfort of passengers traveling on the Pszczyna – Żory route. Business will also benefit, as the passage of freight trains will be shortened by increasing the speed of trains. We have extensive and well-documented experience in the implementation of even very complex contracts involving railway infrastructure. We have also modernized the nearby Czechowice-Dziedzice junction within the contract deadline We are also implementing the second largest railway investment in Poland – the Warszawa Zachodnia station – says Dariusz Bac, Director of Railway Construction at Budimex SA.

Budimex is a general contractor for many railway contracts both in Poland and abroad. Recently, the Company has signed a contract for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line in Latvia, as a result of which the winning ERB RAIL consortium with Budimex in the composition will build a 230-kilometre high-speed railway for EUR 3.7 billion. It is currently one of the largest infrastructure projects financed by the EU.

In the case of the domestic market, a large project implemented by Budimex is the reconstruction of the Warszawa Zachodnia station – the largest investment of PKP PLK worth almost PLN 2 billion, which is in its final stage. When completed, Warszawa Zachodnia will be the largest railway station in the country, with approx. 1,200 agglomeration, regional, long-distance national and international trains passing through it daily. In January this year, Budimex completed a large-scale modernisation of the Czechowice-Dziedzice railway junction. As part of the contract, Budimex constructed or rebuilt m.in 23 engineering structures, including 8 viaducts and 4 bridges, and replaced approx. 47 km of tracks and 56 km of overhead contact line. 3 rail-road crossings and platforms at the Czechowice-Dziedzice, Goczałkowice-Zdrój and Zabrzeg stations were modernized. All works were carried out under active rail traffic. Budimex is also currently carrying out railway investments for PKP PLK in the Port of Gdynia, at the Ełk station, and on the Nowy Targ – Rabka lines.
