Budimex and EDF Renewables announce the signing of a cooperation agreement (MoU) on an equal share basis (50/50) regarding joint involvement in the implementation of investments in offshore wind farms as part of the second phase of offshore development in Poland.
Poland is building a huge potential that will improve energy security and allow for the decarbonization of the future energy mix. The Polish government is striving to increase the share of renewable energy by unlocking the huge potential of the Baltic Sea for offshore wind farms.
As part of the second phase of offshore development, 11 new locations were made available for the construction of offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. The expected capacity of the planned investments in the second phase is to amount to 11 GW. Offshore development is one of the foundations of Polish’s energy transition. Offshore wind farms are to be new sources of energy in our country, as well as to significantly reduce the share of coal in electricity production.
EDF Renewables, which has extensive experience in the field of renewable energy sources, in particular in the design, preparation, construction and operation of renewable energy sources, has submitted 10 applications for location permits for new areas for the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The aim of the cooperation between Budimex and EDF Renewables is to use the special competences and strengths of both companies and to obtain location permits as part of applications submitted by EDF Renewables.
Budimex as the largest general contractor for infrastructure projects in the will bring to the joint venture his extensive experience gained during the implementation of various investments in Poland, extensive knowledge and experience in the development of renewable energy assets around the world thanks to the potential gained as a result of the creation of a business unit in the Ferrovial Group dealing with new energy infrastructure and a wide network of contractors, partners and entities cooperating with the Budimex Group. Budimex wants to actively participate in the country’s energy transition and continue to develop its business profile with investments in RES.
– The energy transition is taking place here and now. It has great potential, and we want to be an active player on the RES market. Our goal is that by 2026. all the energy used by Budimex came from RES. Thanks to the commitment of our teams and the introduction of innovative solutions, all energy can come from renewable sources. – said Artur Popko, President of the Budimex Group.
Alicja Chilińska – Zawadzka, President of the Management Board of EDF Renewables in Poland, stated: “EDF Renewables has been operating in Poland for more than ten years and has a total portfolio of 800 MW of projects already in operation and under development, as well as benefiting from a solid network of local partners. The company is intensively involved in the energy transition in Poland. This agreement is another step showing the attention we attach to partnership with Polish stakeholders in the implementation of our projects and the chain of benefits of offshore investments. EDF Renewables also benefits from many years of experience in offshore wind energy, gained in Europe, China and most recently in the United States.”
The companies have committed to cooperate on an exclusive basis in the field of investments in offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, while being open to the potential extension of the agreement to other entities if it brings additional value to the established partnership. The parties will seek to conclude a comprehensive agreement in the near future, which will be the basis for close cooperation in the field of offshore wind energy investments.
