Budimex, a leader on the Polish market of general contractors, has established scientific and technical cooperation with the Cracow University of Economics. This is the 41st university or technical school and the third in Kraków with which Budimex has started long-term cooperation over the last year.

As part of the contract directly signed on 4 January by Artur Popko  , President of Budimex and Prof. Stanisław Mazur – Rector of the University of Economics in Krakow, the parties undertook to cooperate in the field of educational and training projects, and Budimex will share its experience with students and conduct internships for them. An important element of the agreement is the joint conduct of research on the development of innovative solutions for the construction industry. Earlier, in the capital of Małopolska, Budimex also established similar cooperation with the Chemobudowa Kraków Construction School Complex and the Chemobudowa Kraków School No. 1. st. Rafał Kalinowski.

Budimex regularly supports the development of young staff for the industry by organising m.in. paid internships for both students and high school students. Only in the last year, the company established cooperation with the Railway Technical School in Warsaw, the Geodetic and Road School Complex in Poznań and accepted over 400 students and pupils for paid internships as part of the Budimex Academy programme.

The Budimex Academy is a a program under which students of engineering faculties, but also those who want to deal with HR, finance or IT, take part in paid internships. They last from a month to six months, and during them young people learn about the specifics of working in the construction industry. Since the beginning of the program, more than 3,000 students and students of universities and technical schools have benefited from it. One in three of them has started working at Budimex.

“Signing the agreement with the Cracow University of Economics not only opens up a chance for young people to gain practical experience. As part of the cooperation, Budimex specialists will conduct classes, training, courses and postgraduate studies. An important part of the cooperation established today will be the exchange of experience between EU lecturers and our staff during conferences, symposia and scientific and technical seminars – says Artur Popko, President of Budimex.

The parties to the agreement also announced joint scientific and research work in specially created Research Centres.

“The internship program that will be introduced thanks to this cooperation is aimed at providing students with practical knowledge and experience in the field of construction economics, construction investment finance, value engineering, geodesy, construction and modern design. This initiative will enable young people to better understand and prepare for a career in these fast-growing fields – adds Artur Popko, President of Budimex.

Budimex, as an industry leader and the largest construction group in Poland, focuses on innovation. At the end of 2023, tests of a robot supporting workers on construction sites began at the construction site of the Military Clinical Hospital in Krakow. The project was created as part of an international research project carried out with partners from Italy, Austria and Germany. Another example of Budimex’s successful innovation activities is the creation of an innovative technology for mineral and asphalt mixtures. The aim of this project, carried out by the Budimex Innovation Office, was to create a solution that would indicate the directions of development in the field of building materials and recycling. The solution was appreciated by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, which awarded the project in a competition organized by it. In the opinion of the jury, the actions taken by Budimex are in line with the idea of cooperation within supply chains, build the company’s efficiency based on environmental, social and organisational principles, and contribute to the development of cooperation with stakeholders, as well as building the resilience of enterprises to the crisis.
