Budimex SA has obtained the ISO 19443 accredited certificate, awarded by Bureau Veritas, the global leader in the TIC (Testing, Inspection and Certification) industry. The certificate confirms that the company meets the stringent quality and organizational requirements necessary to operate in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector. The certification process was preceded by a comprehensive audit, which began in October last year.

ISO 19443 is an international standard that specifies requirements for quality management systems for organizations implementing products and services that have an impact on nuclear safety. It was developed on the basis of the ISO 9001:2015 standard, which defines the general principles of quality management. The standards focus, among m.in, on the control of elements critical to nuclear safety (ITNS – Important to Nuclear Safety) and on building a high safety culture throughout the organization.

“Obtaining the ISO 19443 certificate is the first major formal step towards building Budimex’s competences in the area of nuclear energy in Poland. We have mature processes and a clearly defined culture of quality and safety, which are crucial in the implementation of projects of this nature. It is also the result of the consistent work and commitment of our team,”  says Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA, Operational Director of Railway, Energy and Industrial Construction.

About 40 people responsible for key processes in the company were involved in the process of implementing ISO 19443 standards. The work included, among m.in, the adaptation of procedures, strengthening of quality supervision
and documentation and activities related to building a safety culture at all levels of the organization.

Nuclear energy as a direction of development of the sector

“The energy sector, like the railway, will be one of the key areas of development of the construction sector in the coming years. In the case of road infrastructure, basic system needs have been largely met, while rail and energy investments, including nuclear investments, will increasingly shape the market. These are areas that require stable engineering competences, high quality standards and a long-term approach to safety and responsibility ,” adds Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
