On 26 October – a month before the contract deadline – Budimex completed and commissioned the Rumia Janowo transport hub in the Rumia Janowo Voivodeship. Pomeranian. The investor was the city government. The opening of the junction gathered several hundred residents and the authorities of the Wejherowo district, the local government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship with Marshal Mieczysław Struk.
Work on the construction site began on March 18, 2020. The purpose of the Janowo junction was primarily to improve road traffic and modernise the surrounding infrastructure. Thanks to the completed investment, it is possible to constantly integrate various means of transport: railways, cars, public transport and cycling.
As part of the investment, flood control reservoirs were also built to connect to the municipal sewage system. This will protect our city from regular flooding,” said Michał Pasieczny, Mayor of Rumia, during the opening of the investment. Congratulations are well deserved to Budimex for its efficient operation and for carrying out all the works in this difficult terrain within the required deadline,” continued the mayor of the city.
Near the SKM station Rumia Janowo m.in. A tunnel connecting two parts of the city was built, parking lots, bicycle paths, bus shelters and bays, footbridges and facilities for the disabled.
The biggest challenge was the construction of the tunnel, which passes under 4 active railway tracks and the platform of the Rumia Janowo stop,” says Wojciech Kołacki, Contract Director at Budimex SA. There is a road, pedestrian and bicycle path in the tunnel. The static system of the structure is a single-span reinforced concrete frame with a closed cross-section and a span of 15 m in the light of the walls and a length of 29.28 m – adds Kołacki.
Due to the railway infrastructure and the existing platform and platform shelter, the tunnel was made using the pipe-roofing method, which consists in making the initial tunnel casing from steel pipes with diameters from 400 to 1000 cm.
Then, the pipes were connected with special locks and were inserted into the ground by pressing. During the construction process, the continuity of rail traffic was maintained, with the speed of trains limited to a maximum of 60 km/h,” says Kołacki.
The gross value of the contract was PLN 66 million. The investor is the local government of the Rumia commune. Budimex is currently also implementing multimodal transport hubs in Lublin and Rzeszów.
