At the current stage, the level of progress of work on the contract is 85 percent. and is on schedule.
200 people and 70 equipment units work on the construction site.
The scope of work on the contract includes:
- construction of a 2.16-kilometre section of the Słowacki Route (two roadways with two lanes in each direction) and three single-level intersections: with Al. Gene. J. Hallera (four-outlet with traffic lights), from ul. Gdańska (three-outlet with traffic lights), from ul. Nowa Gdańska (four-outlet with traffic lights),
- construction of a harp-type road junction connecting the Słowacki Route with Stadionowa Street,
- construction of a double-track tram line along Al. Gene. J. Haller (370 m long),
- construction of tram turnouts at the intersection with the Słowacki Route,
- construction of a single-track tram line from the intersection of Al. Gene. J. Hallera from ul. Gdańska, (length 415 m),
- construction of retaining walls at the junction of the Słowacki Route with ul. Stadionowa and Uczniowska with a total area of 6.7 thousand. m.kw.,
- construction of a pedestrian tunnel with a pedestrian and bicycle path connecting ul. Uczniowska Street with the PGE Arena stadium,
- construction of a viaduct over the railway tracks.
The works are proceeding according to the assumed schedule, and in the case of some elements they are even ahead of it.
Six months before the contractual deadline for the completion of the works, Budimex ensured passability through the junction in the area of the intersection of the Słowacki Route and Stadionowa Street and obtained a permit to use the pedestrian tunnel under the Słowacki Route, which connects Słowacki Street. Uczniowska with the PGE Arena stadium. Thanks to this, the fans gained a comfortable passage to the stadium before the Euro. The assembly of the almost 40-meter tunnel took only 5 days.

Currently, the assembly of the steel arch structure on the viaduct over the railway tracks is underway. The viaduct is four-span, with a box structure made of prestressed concrete, with a span over the railway tracks suspended from a steel arch structure. The steel arch structure consists of two pipes with a diameter of 1.5 m and 27 steel joints with a cross-section of 0.8 m.
The pipes with a diameter of 1.5 m, which are the main element of the steel structure, were manufactured for Budimex in Siegen, Germany. From Germany, they were transported as 12-metre straight sections to the bending plant in Coseley near Birmingham in the UK. After obtaining the designed radius, the pipes were sent to the construction site. It took 10 months to produce the structure, including bending and preparing the elements for assembly.
The contractor has provided 2 months for the assembly of the structure in the construction schedule.
The entire arched structure is connected to the box structure through headboards (elevations) above the supports. The length of the supporting structure is 262 m, the width – from 22.6 to 30.6 m.
After the installation of the steel arch structure, it will be possible to suspend the viaduct slab and then remove the temporary supporting supports. The surface on the viaduct slab and pavements also remain to be made.
At the same time, works related to the construction of a bituminous surface are being carried out under the contract. To date, 18.5 thousand. tons of bituminous foundation (83.5 percent of the scope of works), over 7 thousand. tons of binding layer (70.3 percent) and over 3 thousand. tons of wearing course (37 percent).
Steel protective barriers are being installed on the route under construction, horizontal and vertical markings and fences are being made. The installation of road lighting elements and traffic lights is underway.
The construction of two retention reservoirs has come to an end. In the last – third – there are reinforced slopes (gabion mattresses).
Lawns are established along the route; Here, the level of advancement of works has exceeded 50 percent, and the area of laid lawns is 38.5 thousand m.kw. Almost 35 percent of trees and shrubs were planted.
The investment, which is of great importance for the Tri-City agglomeration, will be completed on time.
The Słowacki route will connect the south-western part of the city with the southern bypass of Gdańsk, as well as connect the Airport with the Port of Gdańsk and the PGE Arena stadium.
The new route will also relieve the city’s main thoroughfares.
