In the fifth edition of the Bridge Competition im. Maksymilian Wolff, the bridge over the Vistula River in Kwidzyn built by Budimex was honoured with a special award. The ceremonial presentation of the statuettes took place during the Wrocław Bridge Days, on November 21 this year.
The jury of the competition – the most eminent professors from the bridge industry – appreciated the uniqueness and innovation of the bridge in Kwidzyn. The construction of an extradosed bridge of this scale is a pioneering project on a European and even global scale. So far, such structures with a comparable span length have been built in Japan (two) and Switzerland (one).
The extradosed bridge combines the idea of a cable-stayed bridge and a prestressed beam bridge. Some of the prestressing cables are routed outside the girder cross-section. The spans on this type of structures range from 100 to 200 meters. In the case of the crossing in Kwidzyn, the spans range from 130 to 204 m.
The organizer of the competition is the “Mosty” magazine. The aim of this project is to promote Polish technical thought, as well as to show the most innovative bridge projects.
Prizes in the competition are awarded in four categories for projects completed in the year of awarding the prize or in the previous year:
