At the Provincial Hospital im. Jędrzej Śniadecki in Białystok, young patients and their caregivers can spend time together in new, colorful spaces.
35 The Parent Zone was created at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Neurology in Białystok. Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the social program “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” has been running continuously since 2013. In Białystok, we are already handing over the second Zone. Thanks to this project, up to 3000 children a year will be able to use the friendly and colorful space.
“Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” is a nationwide project run and fully financed by Budimex SA. The aim of the project is to create special places in children’s wards of Polish hospitals, where young patients can spend time with their parents and discover the world of … through play. Providing children with such colorful and friendly spaces improves their comfort and speeds up the recovery process.
About one and a half thousand children are treated annually at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Neurology in Białystok. At the beginning of 2021, the hospital rooms were thoroughly renovated thanks to EU funds and the support of the local government of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. Today, Budimex is handing over another fragment of space – the “Parent Zone” room.
“This is the 35th Zone that we are donating as part of the social program “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children”. It is important to us because it allows us to have a real impact on improving the conditions in which parents spend time together with their children who are in hospitalization. A stay in hospital is associated with temporary and partial separation from the family, functioning in an unfamiliar environment, which is not easy for children. The rooms we prepare are colorful and friendly, it is easier to forget about the difficult time and circumstances they are facing at the moment. In this Parent Zone, there will also be daily didactic classes, supporting recovery and the rehabilitation process. This is our second “Parent Zone” in Białystok, the first one was established in 2013 at the Children’s Clinical Hospital im. L. Zamenhof at the Department of Paediatrics, Paediatric Gastroenterology and Allergology. We are happy to help” – says Aldona Orłowski, Director of the Recruitment, Development and Communication Office at Budimex.
At the Department of Paediatrics and Child Neurology, the spaces of the former common room have been adapted. The inspiration for the project was nature and the forest. As part of the work, we focused on aesthetic and functional issues, primarily decoration and protection of the walls. In this way, we prepared a room consisting of the necessary areas: an educational part for older children, a play corner for toddlers and a place with a soft sofa and a TV set created for parents. The Parent Zone will be available to up to 3000 beneficiaries per year.
Due to the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic and out of concern for the health and safety of patients and staff, the commissioning of the renovated spaces took place externally. A press meeting was organized in front of the Hospital building, carried out with all precautions.
The programme is implemented and fully financed by Budimex SA.
