Budimex, together with the investor – the State Archives and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, opened a new building of the State Archives in Bydgoszcz

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński and the Voivode of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

“I would like to congratulate Bydgoszcz and the residents of Bydgoszcz. Archives are the backbone and bloodstream of the modern state. Investments in archives are extremely important. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this investment. We are moving the archives into the 21st century. Archives must be properly secured and made available to the public. This is a beautiful investment – I join in congratulating the designer and the contractor” – says Piotr Gliński, Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

On a plot of 6794.00 m2 at ul. Karłowicza in Bydgoszcz, a four-storey building with a total area of 8477.72 m2 was built, with a built-up area of 2100.15 m2 and a cubic capacity of 23501.38 m3. The usable part is 7525.19 m2. The warehouses occupy 3854.48 m2. They will accommodate over 30 kilometers of running files. This will allow the Archive to almost triple its current resources of over 11 kilometres in the future.

‎„The building of the State Archives, as a specialist object, was certainly an engineering challenge for m.in. due to the need to achieve the right conditions inside, especially in terms of temperature and humidity, for long-term storage of documents. Both the temperature and humidity in the new building are fully electronically controlled in a very precise range. It is worth noting the use of many solutions that make the building environmentally friendly – e.g. façade lighting is powered by renewable energy sources thanks to the use of photovoltaic cells. The headquarters of the State Archives undoubtedly confirms Budimex’s competence in the construction of even the most complex and highly demanding specialist buildings” – says Radosław Slesar, Regional Director at Budimex S.A.

Archival warehouses will be equipped with modern racking systems. Part of the storage space will be used as rooms with special conditions. Materials that require m.in will be stored there. reduced temperature.

Budimex signed the contract with the investor on 28 September 2021. Construction work began three months later. The planned cost of construction is over PLN 50 million, and the entire investment is about PLN 80 million. The whole project is financed from the state budget, from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Modern architectural, technological and IT solutions have been used in the building. The building has the form of a rectangular block, maintained in neutral colors. The external walls are made in the technology of ventilated concrete slabs façade and enriched with elements bordering on architecture and graphics. This technology, by breaking the light, in addition to its compositional significance, prevents the rooms from overheating.
