The section of the S61 expressway built by Budimex, between the Stawiski and Szczuczyn junctions, is located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, in the Kolno and Grajewo districts, and runs through the Stawiski, Grabowo and Szczuczyn communes. This section is a part of the national road S-61 Ostrów Mazowiecka – Łomża – Stawiski – Szczuczyn – Ełk – Raczki – Suwałki – Budzisko. The investment was implemented in the “design and build” formula. As part of the contract, one “Grabowo” junction was built, located at km 6+633 of the S61 expressway at the junction with the county road No. 1828B, and two Motorway Service Areas (MSAs): “MOP Zabiele Zachód” and “MOP Zabiele Wschód”.

The investment is of great importance, both for Polish and for Europe. The implementation of the design and construction of the S61 expressway leads to the creation of a transit road system in Polish, which is a necessary action to adapt the road infrastructure to the standards of the European Union. The section covered by the project was built as part of the Via Baltica route. It runs along the S8 expressway on the Warsaw – Ostrów Mazowiecka section, then connects with the S61 expressway, running from Ostrów Mazowiecka to the Polish border, located in the town of Budzisko.
